What add on to get first for MSFS?

Postby zkcav » Sat Jul 15, 2023 6:41 am

Good Morning

As you may have picked up by a few other posts I am getting back into the hobby, but been out of the loop for about 8 years so way behind on developments.

So I am after recommendations for software both in add-ons for scenery, tweaks and utils. based on DC-3 flying NZ initially.

Brand new out of box high spec computer so the slate is clean.

Will use my old Saltek switches, radio stack, yoke, rudder and throttle quad.

First flights will be out of my home airport NZPM so local area is preferred until I get things set up properly.

Cheers Paul

It's a bit of a strange one, but one of the most common complaints with the scenery in MSFS is that the default trees are way too big. This is something Asobo have even acknowledged they will be changing for FS2024 but it seems like FS2020 is stuck with it. So there is an addon available which shrinks them down to a more realistic size.

It makes a noticeable improvement to the overall scenery in my opinion.

Edit - I'm not sure if it's compatible with the latest patches so that might be something someone else can answer?

Yeah it still seems to work. I reinstalled it after the NZ world update just to be sure.

Thanks - I see what you mean about the size of the trees

Okay a newbie question where to install the download too? everything has changed in FS 2020

The good news is that everything just goes in the community folder. There's no scenery order or anything to worry about.

Much content available here, search on NZ

But if you intend to properly categorise and keep track of all those addons, Addon Linker comes highly recommended, especially if you are clever enough to use it from the get-go!

My first stop for payware is the MSFS Marketplace, it is the most painless way I know of, to part with cash.
Maybe decide which PW sceneries you want, before flooding the sim with freeware as there will of course be conflicts.

Enjoy... this is the best sim you have ever seen.
