Beauty, thanks Rob, that’s one piece of i formation I’ve been wanting to find out about. I’m close to getting 2024 but my internet is dreadfully slow which might prevent me from getting a ‘pleasing’ 2024 performance. Regards John

Hi guys, I have been into flight simming since the land was green ( just green ) and the sea was blue, that was back in 95 I think. Today I still have and get a great deal of pleasure cruising into new places on the sim I have built up over the years, but have a slight problem now. I am an Orbx fan and have many of their addons, but all of which are taking a toll on my poor old PC. As I live in Whangarei, I would like to know if there are any other sim fans who could give me some guidence on how to get the best from my setup. I do enjoy my simulator, but get very frustated trying to nut out...

Now that nails it down. "Startle Factor": what a descriptive phrase. With your permission, I will quote you many times into the future.

Due to hardware, space and money limitations I've been on Xbox Series X for the last year and a half with MSFS2020 and now MSFS2024 through Game Pass. It's been terrific but does have the issues of using a game controller (proper HOTAS etc is available, but again cost prohibitive for me at the moment) and being limited to addons available in the official Marketplace. I've been having a ton of fun but having the issues Robin's mentioned with inappropriate autogen (rocks on grass runways, a radio mast in the middle of Whanganui's apron) and all the limitations of Asobo's scenery generation....

Simplygone then at that price :D Could the loading time be due to the different texture formats?

Just wondering, do you use photogrammetry? If so have you noticed better blending into default colour's? I do use photogrammetry, but only because it looks ok from a certain height. The clash of photogrammetry and photo tiles is still an issue, that's for sure. Today I tried the latest SU4 beta download, which is starting to look promising. I have decided that I have to stick with 1080p if I want reasonable performance at higher settings, a bit of a waste on my 4K monitor. But no crashes so far. I can even use the in-game development mode without bringing the sim to its knees. Loading the sim...

i think im more than likely safer leaving the tweaking of scenery to the experts as i think i would end up breaking something and creating a spider web of issues and errors and just stick to safe options of just flying about with ready made stuff

Since I posted that, I've been finding it more and more difficult to even load a flight with the SU3 beta, with countless CTDs, so today I quit the beta and went back to SU2. I'd only really joined the beta to see if my aerials would be fixed, but now that I've tweaked them to work, I can happily fly -- and develop -- in SU2.

CP, the crush may have been the Stag (not saying you weren't a desirable catch) ...my old Humber 80 with a hunter engine and free flow exhaust had a similar affect ....but in reverse  At that stage I think I was still on a pushbike, before my first car (a Morris 1000). When I was doing my CHC outstation work I traded my Ford Capri 2000 mk2 in for my first Stag. The second one I bought later after returning to Auckland. That was a Leyland P76 engined one which I repainted black inside and out. It used to boogy. I quite liked the Triumps. I even had a Triumph 2500 PI for a while when...

It's not quite the same thing I realise, but I do like that 2024 allows you to start on the ground from any location. I often do GA trips to strips that aren't in the FS database so being able to resume from those is nice, although there is always the risk of selecting your start point and finding it's directly on top of a large rock or a tree!

 and for $1, we could get a spade and free access to the burial plot in Oz, plus all the other bits we will need! It's a no-brainer, get the folks who negotiated the Cook Strait Ferry deal involved... Up and running by 2035? They can show them off at the Auckland airport second runway opening air show. Experience and cynicism come hand in hand.
