Back to a simpler time....

I finally got around to getting FSX Steam Edition this week, I was pretty sure it disappeared when Microsoft released MSFS, so I was surprised to see it available still. (I do have the boxed version on an old PC somewhere.) Quite an easy install compared to the old days, although it took me a bit of binging to get it working.

This was partly a desire to go back to an earlier time, pre-Twitter and the obvious effects of climate change in NZ, although Twitter did predate FSX by a few months -- I was very late to the twitterverse, and maybe should have stayed away completely.

I am in the process of installing stuff to get it up to how I remember it, and I must admit there's a lot I've forgotten -- which clouds? Which AI addon? -- so hopefully I won't get bored before I've got it looking great. Performance-wise, this is the sim we always wanted -- 60FPS at 4K, all ultra settings. It only took me 15 years to get there. Still, I may never get to see it as I used to, before we were all spoilt by the look of MSFS.

On my 4K monitor the menus are almost too small for me to read without putting my nose on the screen, but I'm amazed that I remember all the menu key shortcuts. And it's actually quicker for me to download my own scenery from Avsim than move it over the network from the old PC. I'm loving the 5 second load screens, I can remember a lot of waiting back in the old days. I'll get back if I manage to stick with FSX for more than a few days!

Just personalise and scale the display!

I have had the odd yen to do this with FS9, but I threw it all away and the memories (Fond) are sufficient.
