Probably why I don’t sim much.....

Postby cowpatz » Sun Nov 29, 2020 10:03 pm

I haven’t flown much in the sim recently so, with “she who must be obeyed” out of town until tomorrow, I thought I would get on VATSIM and do the AKL/CHC milk run in the PMDG 777
What an act.
First off firing up P3D I get annoying dialogue boxes popping up. One about verifying files on ORBX for chase plane and the other for a Navigraph sim link update. The chaseplane one turned out to be an update but the simlink was a real time waster. It kept on saying that it couldn’t uninstall from FSX or P3D V3 of which I have neither. Cancelling each message just sets up an endless loop between the 2 boxes. It needed closing via task manager each time. Into the registry we go. After 30 min I sort of fixed it. Set up on gate 6 at AKL and the GSX jetways won’t work despite it being a usual set up position when I sim. Reposition via GSX ...nope. Slew back a bit and all is good.....but Chaseplane plays up....WTH. Turns out I was still in slew mode.
Fired up Activesky and then get a message about an update for AS cloud art. Selecting that it then says in doing so I will lose my high res textures. Not having that so I close that box only to have AS disappear. Alt enter out of P3D to reload AS.....nothing. Nothing showing in the task bar...doh! Repeat many times with no luck. Open up task manager and both AS and ASCA show as processes but nothing happens. So I decided to do a Complete shutdown and restart the sim. Finally sorted and open up VPilot to communicate with VATNZ controllers only to find that the L comm box won’t change the vPilot frequency as it is supposed to. It requires a manual text entry to change freq. I try the right box and it works as it should...go figure. Eventually push back/start up and go to select flap 5 and it just chooses any old flap setting on its own. But not all the time. Flap 5 was the takeoff setting but somewhere during the TO roll it set 15. Somewhere enroute AS disappears again. Base turn for the ILS 02 app the flap decides to do its random thing again and while trying to sort it out I get high on the GS and have to do a dirty dive to regain slope. All the time im having to juggle between a CDU app and charts on my iPad whilst having to constantly swap the window in focus to either make calls on Vpilot or back into P3D to make panel selections. To make things really interesting the switch I have mapped to the AP disconnect on my controller becomes the PTT switch when vPilot is in focus.....didn’t know that, and yep it can turn ugly.
It seemed like it took twice as long to sort things out than it did to actually fly the 1hr 10 min sector!
I should have just had a wine and watched Netflix. :@

Oh lord .. sorry mate but I don't know whether to laugh  or cry  ... I'm in exactly the same boat am afraid to say, too many add-ons with too much r-seen around especially w online flying. I haven't fired up the Sim in months.

Have been out and about doing outdoors stuff since the weather picked up post COVID lockdown so that's also taken a lot of time. Never know, might get the urge again one wet weekend

Well when you have that all sorted, can you please explain why on the classic it stands the thrust levers up for no apparent reason and then the FMC says "drag required"

It's not just Flightsim that does weird things.
