EDIT: Hello Doug ..

Pato wrote:Has anyone successfully installed FSX in Win10?. I am having some difficulty. I ran Disk 1 and had to navigate to fsx.exe to start the programme.
I get a Window "FS cannot run because the version of MS Directx (R) installed on your computer is incompatible. Please reinstall Directx 9.0 by running FS setup,
or download the current version from http://www.microsoft.com/direxctx" Not sure which version to install or where I should install it.?
Anyone else had this problem and may be able to assist thanks.

Yes, I had to get a new drive and reinstall windows 10, FSX and P3D. All installed just fine so I'm not sure what has happened with your installation. Anyway, I guess that doing a separate install of DX9 should fix your problem. I'm pretty sure that DX9 is supposed to be installed when you install FSX but maybe windows 10 checks and sees that there is a later version so doesn't properly install the DX9 drivers.
Follow Doug's link and install from there
, sometimes you really wonder if it is really worth it but after the reaction and comments I heard today "Ya Damn Right it is "
Well I am wondering that as I proceed with Win10, sometimes I wish I had never loaded Win10. Unfortunately I was unable to go back to Win7 after a fresh install and the loss of my backup. I have had trouble with some other programs that ran perfectly in Win7 but not in Win10. Makes life interesting I guess.Ian Warren wrote:Crikey that is a real game ... all that to get a simulator up and running, sometimes you really wonder if it is really worth it but after the reaction and comments I heard today "Ya Damn Right it is "

I am a bit out of touch with the latest programs. I know a little about Prepar3d but don't know anything about FSX Steam. I would certainly have not problems purchasing it and that will probably solve the problems. I like Win10 but it has given me problems with some of my programs, but I am slowly sorting them out. Will my previously purchased scenery etc work with FSX Steam.?toprob wrote:
The simple solution for Flight Simulator is to run a more modern version -- either Prepar3d or FSX Steam. FSX-se is currently NZ$30, but it is sometimes cheaper. Sure, it would be nice to install from our bought-and-paid-for discs, but it's a lot simpler to buy a version which just runs.

I would certainly want to be sure that addons work with Steam. I had better do some research on Steam to see how if differs from FSX Gold.Ian Warren wrote:Pato wrote:toprob wrote:Will my previously purchased scenery etc work with FSX Steam.?
I brought FSX Steam as a backup, Five Dollar Special , I can't see any reason why it should not work with addons , think this is one area I'd want to make sure payware aircraft would , I'm guessing scenery would simply plop and play.
