I did two Sydney airside tours, each tour was on two hours in a 30 seater bus, it was stopped after 9/11, well worth the look, we went everywhere, Well worth a looks.

I hope you win it Rob so that you can get some good shots airside for your next scenery project :)

Hey, anyone can take photos.... I've actually seen two different developer's screenshots of NZAA just recently, so I'm not too guilty that I gave up on it. However if someone came up with a few nice photos, I'd be happy to pass them on.

Going thru my art folder, I found a large cache of photo's airside Auckland, I was going to do the texture templates for Mike before he moved on, I'd have to contact Mike to see if allowed pass them on to, I believe many off these photo's were taken by Craig AKA "Towerguy" , they would be a good base start , any airport updates could be doctored with a little arty farty stuff.

Edit: I just checked , Photos_2012 .. 271 files , there is also a mixture with Northshore and Parakai.

Might be worthwhile having a database of photos available for use in NZ airports -- where anyone can use them, provided they release something for local simmers...

I took quite a few photos of the International terminal for Che to use but I have not heard much as to how he is progressing.

Are these sort of photos useful. Probably not to take textures from but give an idea of what is there. These sample ones are from around Gate 2 to 4 at NZAA International apron.

Shots like that would be a huge help to any developer. That's exactly the sort of thing I was talking about, I'm not sure how this would work, but I do think that a 'database' of airport photos would be a great idea. Not sure how it would be organised, as I'm aware that online storage is an issue, but maybe if those with photos could just share Dropbox (or other) folders, combined with a EULA, we'd see what happens.

I still have to contact Mike , got a little busy with Mike W. here today, but a library would be sent directly to Che is another good option as he nailed New Plymouth.

I second Robin - it would be a tremendous help to developers if people can share airside photos of NZAA (or any high quality photos for that matter).

For NZAA it's very hard to find decent reference photos of Pier B (Gate 15 & 16) and airside of the domestic terminal.

Personally I would pay or kill to get high quality airside photos any day of the week :P

I don't go past 15,16 and 17 much but here are a few various shots from my collection to show what is possible. Theses were taken with a Samsung S3 camera phone but I now have a S5 with better resolution.

Guess I should take some more while I have the opportunity. It is just awkward these days to get the gates clear of aircraft.

Brilliant set.
Yeah, damn aircraft getting in the way of the view -- I've always said that airports would be great places if it wasn't for all the noisy planes...

if specific areas are needed at NZAA then let me know and I will see what I can organize, we have people out and about all the time and I could organize a trip for myself in the airport inspection vehicle if needed. I can also get quite a few areas with a zoom lens from the tower balcony. The only problem is the rate of change at the moment with gates and lead lines almost constantly changing.

Kio Ora everyone

I wasn't planning on posting these here but then I thought it wouldn't be out of place under this thread.

This is what I've been working on for the last 4 months. It shouldn't take much imagination to see what I'm making (and if you're having trouble telling which airport this is then I must be doing something horribly wrong! :D )

At this stage I'm not promising any advanced features such as transparent windows/interior modelling or moving jetways. I'm simply trying to make an accurate 3D representation of the international terminal (circa 2014-15? based on what I can find) which everyone can just stick on the default or Orbx scenery and enjoy. There's no time frame but I would like to think that I could finish the majority of the modelling by mid year and hopefully texturing by the end of the year. I know that sounds like a long time but hey better late than never!

The main reason why I'm making this post is that I've come to a point where I'm a bit stuck, particularly the two areas which I've circled in red. If any one can or is willing to contribute to reference photos I would be most grateful.

Looking good so far B-) , I don't live anywhere near Auckland but what I did during airport builds was put in something the was close ... the model build takes time but the biggest time user is creating the textures, airport this size you don't want internal features, people complain about FPS .. always the same.

Unfortunately the red area to the right, by Cyril Kay rd is under reconstruction. There is a large crane plopped in the middle of it.
I will see what shots I can get.

yes I have been to the airport quite a few times and I am aware of constructions going on (although I have no idea what's being built or extended  ).

personally I think a 2014-2015 version would be good enough for simming purposes

if I can pull it off I can always update it later I guess...
