Best P3D Weather Engine?

Postby ScottyB » Wed Jun 24, 2015 9:50 am

Hi guys,

I currently have P3D v2.5 installed with REX Essentials, but I am a bit over the boring weather dynamics (or lack of). I am now looking to fork out some money and get the likes of Active Sky Next, Opus or the like.

Any recommendations?

Thanks
Scotty

Active Sky compliments REX and Visa versa , in New Zealand we cannot get a true weather theme due to the P3D/FSX program so its up to the themes you what to build is guess , most all weather platforms are much the same now.

Ian, in that case would the cons of ASN etc reducing my computer performance outweigh the only very minor benefits seeing as we don't have ,many WX stations from P3D? Maybe I'll just leave it as is...

I think you may find some simmers here would say one is better than the other but generally what you see in REX with P3D is as good as your going get it and some are going to say, people NAH .. they are the ones who spend hours building a weather theme and time off day just to get a good screen ... the best idea is look everyday at the weather , the clouds .. even a blue sky , surprising what the eyeballs pick up on.

ASN can also obtain weather fron VATSIM

Never been to a VATSIM meet for the weather.

ASN works very well for me.

Only strange thing I see, is during the taxi after landing in the Ifly 73/74 I see continuous smoke from the tires even if no braking has been used. If I turn off ASN it goes away.

Can you disable that smoke effect in ASN?

I believe that ASN no longer works with latest P3D hotfix so either hold off a purchase until ASN release a fix (should only be days) or don't install the hotfix.

Not that I'm aware of.

Also I haven't updated anything so can't comment. I like to wait a while until the dust settles before updating things

I've also noticed a lot of thunderstorms in NZ with asn. There's an option to not make thunderstorms with reported cumulus.

Have never seen this issue occur. It would be most odd to think it would be ASN related since those are model effects files and not anything to do with ASN

Again not something I've noticed, weather seems to match up perfectly fine.

Could it be the rain effect and it had been raining with ASN?
Probably hard not to notice if it's raining though

I'll be that one person that disagrees. I prefer OPUS FSI for my weather engine. I find its regular updates and improvements are great plus it add a great camera system.

I find the weather engine itself providing closer weather to the actual outside weather. In ASN even with Vatsim selected i find the actual weather generation is not that accurate. It seems that in ASN even with Vasim selected the weather data still only comes from the three main centres and not the additional vatsim stations.

Just had my well thrashed Credit Card out again for for the 30% off ASN sale.
I hope like hell P3D 3.0 is still going to be backwards compatible with all these add ons!
