If you know the paint job its quite easy to pick out the planes owner. There are not many L39s in the country sadly. We need more flying warbirds.

I think it was that pesky L-29 playing over Lyttelton a couple of weeks ago, I went outside with the binocs as it came over my house, and looked straight up, it was coming straight down on me in a loop. Certainly looked like fun.

They are amazing aircraft, I really miss hearing the jets flying over. Do they still do the P51 fights from CHCH ? B-)

Yes you are right, When I was down there I saw this beautiful spitfire rolled out of the hanger. It was the only plane I ever saw at Wigram but sadly waited a while but did not fly. I did get photograph but have no idea where it is, It still maybe on a roll of film.

Christchurch airport is not what it use to be. When I arrived there when they were doing the upgrade to the terminal it was so micky mouse.

Trust me , I could write a history book on my personal experiences since even the mid to late 1960s , would be not so bad had they kept an observation deck , I practically lived up there, was a great place even a blasting southerly .. but today is diabolical .. It was the best in New Zealand and today just a friggen meat works.

Yes you are correct, I could easily write a book as well. I never saw Chch but I did at Auckland but unsure if you can still go out side. But yes the wreck all the fun stuff.

I am also a keen plane spotter and I would be the same spend allot of time watching the planes, but allot has changed. The one change I am sad about it no more Air nz 737-300 the roar of those engines.

There is a Superb book , author Tony Phillips called 'WITH GREAT FORESIGHT , The Story of Christchurch International Airport' ... this is a must , published in 2006 , hardcover , very hi-quality print gloss paper, well worth digging up a copy , the read and the photo's are , take you back in time.

One thing with Tony, he is an airport fireman so gave him access and with the foresight to take some amazing photo's.

The ORBX NZSI update did update and suits NZFF Scenery teams Christchurch dose bleed into the scenery very well, I'm still to move on re-building the airport , this dose give me a great base , but currently it is better than default.

I have a teaser for you.

Today a jet flew over heading north over the towns in the heading towards upper north island. I was unable to see the aircraft as it was flying above the cloud but it was a jet and traveling very quickly, It has a unusual sound I have never head before as it was quiet but fast no roar. I was taking a stab in the dark that it was making its self back home from Omaka last weekend, I thought It could have been a strike master but after listening to a video it did not sound like that. Any Ideas but this plane had no roar it was quiet but had to been a jet by the sound and it was moving quickly.

The R/R Viper on the Strikemaster is very loud at low level going full tit, on a gentle climb its a little like an old 200 series 737 without a hush kit with a quiet rumble , more than likely it was the 167.
