Even though the 100 series was a rudimentary aircraft they flew very nicely. In fact I always thought that the 100 series was more balanced in pitch than the 500. Quite noticeable in the flare.
The nosewheel steering on the other hand was a nightmare and only a minor improvement on a basic castoring nosewheel unit. Parking on Gate 10 (gate 18 now) at Wellington in a strong blustery Northerly was a real challenge with many a Fokker ending up stuck askew on the gate with the nosewheel hard over.
Definitely looks smart in the Mt Chook livery.
Funny how the wheel turns. The F27 passenger aircraft departed our skies and we ended up with a rag tag bunch of aircraft filling the void. Now we are back with forty odd seater high wing turbo props servicing most of the provinces again.
"Now we are back with forty odd seater high wing turbo props servicing most of the provinces again." .... how it turns indeed CP.Snowman wrote:QUOTE (Snowman @ May 12 2014,10:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>ZK-DCB in her full Ministry of Transport "CivAIR" livery....................

Ahh yes,............ all ex NAC / Air NZ F27-100s, all purchased brand-new by NAC.
ZK-BXB, "Kotuku" NAC / Air NZ, NZ2781 RNZAF, sold to Laoag Intl Airlines in the Phllippines registered as RP-C3888...........
Broken up for scrap in Manilla in November 2002.
ZK-BXC, "Koweka" NAC / Air NZ, NZ2782 RNZAF sold to Laoag Intl Airlines in the Philippines registered as RP-C5888.
Later sold to President Airlines in Cambodia. Current status is unknown.............
ZK-BXD, "Korere" NAC / Air NZ, NZ2783 RNZAF sold to Laoag Intl Airlines in the Philippines registered as RP-C6888.
Written off in a landing accident at Macton on 6th December 1995.
At least one ex NAC F27-100 survives in pristine restored flying condition.
Its one of the second-hand F27s NAC got from Aer Lingus back in the 60s.
F27-100 ZK-NAH "Kawatere", formerly EI-AKA "St Feidhlim" of Aer Lingus, arrived in NZ 27 July 1966.
Was pressed into service still in its Aer Lingus livery 2 days after arriving here, to cover for 2 Viscounts down with tail cracks.
After full conversion to NAC standards. it entered service officially on 15 November 1966.
It first entered service with Aer Lingus on 23 March 1958, and was the FIRST production model F27 to ever fly.
It returned to the Netherlands in late 2004, and underwent a full overhaul , and now flies with the Fokker Heritage Flight
in early NLM colours as PH-FHF.
It still has the NAC logo'ed fabric on the cockpit seats to this day !
The aircraft takes part in a number of airshows, including the Flying Legends Airshow in the UK.
This is how ZK-NAH looks today......................
Some of the later Ex NAC / Air NZ F27-500s are still flying with Murpati-Nusantra Airlines, alongside their F50s.Last edited by Snowman on Tue May 13, 2014 4:27 pm, edited 1 time in total.

The story on ZK-BXF in Mt Cook Livery,................
Fokker F27 Mk100. C/N 10185
First flight brand-new from the Fokker factory as PH-FCZ in August 1961.
She was the 6th Friendship in the original order from NAC, and arrived new in New Zealand in 20th September 1961, registered as ZK-BXF, and named "Kopara".
She served NAC through all the livery changes of NAC, and then in April 1978 she went to Air New Zealand and was painted in the interim hybrid orange/red Air NZ livery, and finally in the blue/green striped Air NZ livery.
She was leased to Mt Cook Airlines in 1994, and spent quite some time flying in their colours, before being sold in the Philippines.
Last known to be in storage in Manila.
The photo of her in Mt Cook livery on the previous page was taken at Rotorua.Last edited by Snowman on Wed May 14, 2014 3:37 pm, edited 1 time in total.
