Anyway, lets push it aside .... move on , and enjoy a great hobby.... and a great forum.

mmm... i agree, also AB love the idea of a topic for constructive criticism around screenshots. Because i know i can improve but no one tells me how, and i think that is the case with all screenshot artists.

I never intended for my suggestion to be aimed at the competition -- although it would be the ultimate goal to help someone along to a win at some stage. It was always in the back of my mind that it could include ideas and tutorials, but that would be up to individual members. It would have been nice to have the occasional winner give some insight into how they arrived at their shot.

Any change is difficult, I know, and I'm not a big fan of it for its own sake. As I said, it might not be the best time at the moment to try out new ideas.

I think the tutorial's would be a great Idea in all honesty, on another site they had a the image cut out, and then a guide was posted with how to go about cutting it if you wanted to try it, and then a guide on how to smooth the "jaggy" edges etc, perhaps that's something which would encourage more users to have a go at editing or putting a composite together, using either Gimp or Photoshop!

Thought John biggrin.gif , firstly we need to encourage peoples full stop to even post a screenie even before we get to tek-co-no-logic .... be just to much for many huh.gif

I did one of those a few years back for one of my images showing how i put the water in, went over most peoples heads I think. But i think thats a great idea, maybe a tutorials subforum eventually? I know that was what happened on another screenshot site, and that worked really well.

I reckon it's BS to enter a Ukranian-registered SU-27 over Lyttleton, for example.

Just a thought .... this thread would be great if it was comment free (i know i did) but.... its the screenshot comp , it would be nice to just concentrate on the shots , without having to wade through pages of chat.
Just a thought.

This happened were chat was banned .... the Competition on that month those many years back went down like a LEAD dumpling .... No one said Boo ! ... I recall those few months went with around half a dozen plus a little more ... It was cold Turkey ! ... nothing like a little banter to keep the interest and encourage others to give it a go cool.gif

Maybe the admins had better research this .. Surprising how short peoples memories are .. those six plus years back it was a bloody disaster and was cold, lost its tempo .

Same with most threads, you have to nurture them or they get boring ... or else, whats the point - It keeping the interest - this last month January is a good example in the lack off interest - tho it was not the worst.

The amount of members who won't or don't post do post on screen-shot reply's show it shows interest and keeps it moving so we have to keep the game going .. its part of the community and that is the key thing.

It is very sad to to see these issues coming up again, just a few months after the last time.
I think most of you know my views (they were posted earlier in this thread), but there are a few things that need to be addressed.

"It could be anywhere"
FS provides a facility to display the Lat & Long on screen. We are, quite rightly, not allowed to include text or frames in entries. Doug has enough to do.
Maybe, if the original full-screen pic had to include that info, from FS or Snapper or similar, while the entrant had to trim it from the 1280 wide pic entered,
then the winners would be supplying proof that they had met the conditions, when they sent the original to Doug for editing into a banner.

Of course those who need to cheat could easily combine location info from one screenshot into another with no location reference.

For that reason, I am generally against the 'enhanced' shots, particularly those which combine RW photos with FS screenshots. An entry is either an FS screenie, reproducible by anyone, or it is not.

It might help if the "This month's comp is now open" post listed all the regular sponsors, and just said something like "There will be one (two/three) prizes this month, from one of these major developers".

I enjoy the comp, I have even got a vote or two now and again, but this sort of wrangling and the implications behind it are really pi**ing me off.

Has to be kept , the banter and the fun ..... Going over the same thing again and again , that the fun part is the interest, as I posted , the entire thread "The Screenshot Competition" almost died those many years back , Its only a Month and the banter that comes with it gets Sealed with that month ...

.... Same Silly Repeat please .... nothing wrong with a little 'chit chat' keeps everything alive , and again the subject is only a .. that Month

I am with you on that, Ian - a bit of friendly banter is good. But when it develops into a full-on discussion, that should be posted elsewhere (i.e. here)

Me too - mebbe we could drop the politeness of posting that you have changed your entry - after all, your best pic is going to be the one that finishes up in Doug's list.
Nobody can vote before that (but they might try to hijack your idea) ohmy.gif

OK guys you asked for the screenshot voting to have votes invisible to members until after the voting has closed so this months is a trial run with voting results only visible to the admin and will not be shown to the members until voting has closed also just to stop members checking whose image is whose I have also made the closed March screenshot competition invisible to members until the voting has finished.
I would like your feedback on this to see if this is the way you all want to have the voting done in the future.

All good here, Doug, and thanks for doing that extra work. Maybe sometime in the future, the entries could be drawn from a hat and listed in that order, rather than date received; but in the meantime all is well.

Cheers
