Anyone had issues with USPS Priority Mail shipping?

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Hey fellow simmers,

Just wanting to know if any of you have had issues with using the USPS Priority Mail shipping method? No real reason to panic at this stage but just wanting to get some feedback about it. You see, I purchased a Beechcraft C-23 yoke from Ebay (only one advertised there and they are really hard to find domestically at least) and used this shipping method. I think there is still a small window left to expect it's arrival but their website says 6-10 days and it has been in transit for about 7 days. I wonder if it's just stuck in a container while they fill the container up, rather than sending it independently or using some other priority package delivering method.

I'm hanging out for the yoke to arrive so I can get started on my yoke control build.

BTW, does anyone know what sort of DC motors I would need for force feedback that might be available in NZ (Auckland preferable) as i'm looking into this. I've been over the web trying to get a specific motor type so I can go somewhere and say "I need X motor please". Or, if there is some machinery that has this type of motor in it.

Cheers,

K.

I ordered a set of the Ice Pilots DVDs which are sent by USPS. Got an email from them last Saturday to say the parcel was in the pile being shipped that day, it was in my letterbox about 7am yesterday - delivered on the morning of the 6th day after they said it was ready to be sent.

I'd add that USPS is not affected by the us government shutdown - it manages to be self funding so doesn't need government money to operate.

Most of my delays with shipping from the US have been with NZ customs. One occassion the package arrived in Auckland in less than 24 hours but it took customs another 5 days to do anything about it, and that was only after I had rung them. Not too impressed. angry.gif

As a US resident, I've had no issues, but I wouldn't trust their time estimate since who knows what customs is up to....

No real issues and I have 1 or 2 parcels a month coming out of various places in the US.
I have had the odd trackable parcel that has taken 5 days just to leave the US and I have had 1 incident of a priority parcel taking 41 days from when it was apparently sent to when it arrived. Unfortunately it wasn't trackable but I think it probably went by ship and not aeroplane.
I have never had an issue with NZ Customs other than being hit with duty a couple of times but I have always received the parcel within 24hrs of paying the duty.

Just depends how busy NZ customs are it can sit in customs for up to 4 or 5 days before they get to look at it but at this time of the year it should go through in a couple of days.
I had a parcel arrive in late December last year and it sat in customs for a week before it was processed.

FWIW Items I have had shipped from USA to Australia in the past have taken anywhere from 7-14 days. I don't worry too much until the 14 days has passed.

Usually takes 3-4 days after the item is shown as arrived in Australia to get to me (customs delays etc)

I think the it would be a speedier process simply because it is a book , no cavities to hide anything in ... or maybe a history of continue aircraft book buying gives me a VIP pass winkyy.gif

I believe I seen your beloved yoke on border security just the other night it happened to feature along side two lovely doors witch led to the total destruction of the two lovely doors, after finding nothing inside attention was quickly turned to the nice flight control. Mr customs was rather eager to drill great dirty holes in it before attacking the plastic finish with a great big hammer. I am sorry to inform you, your shipment will arrive in a black plastic bag rather than a box.

On the plus side NZ customs has learnt from the two falsely identified packages leading to the replacement of the X-ray machine and an update in practice. the change in the practice means NZ customs blocks thousands of drug imports a week. Be aware that this reviewed process comes at a price which has lead to a raise in importers tax which you will be very lucky not to have to pay. But I wish you the best of luck with your purchase and your customs experience.

all this joking around makes me seriously question what happens when custom makes a stuff up and damages someones goods for no need. And just to keep this thread on topic, the only trouble I have had with shipments is in customs and the importers tax which I seriously believe is Mr customs requiring a pay rise or just a little bit more lunch money.

((No offence to any customs officers that view this thread) although feel free to inform me what happens when you stuff up))
