MS Fs2004: A Decade of Flight

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

This did happen , had friends stop in .. this was the old days and ask how accurate it was ... looked to one side out the window .. Real Deal .. that cloud was there .. just to prove the point as they flew over my hanger in the Sprite , so did another outside ... now that is as real as you can get cool.gif

lol yes, just a few of us burning a candle for the old sim laugh.gif

Once I have one of these: Asus P8Z68 m/b - i5/2500k @4.3GHz - EVGA-GTX560Ti - 8GB DDR3/1600 - Win7 - FSX -
I might be FSX exclusive? Learning to live without my fsnav will be the hardest part biggrin.gif
PS if you're ever in the mood to upgrade drop me a line!!

Hehe, jeeze looking at those specs now after having the rig for almost a year they're starting to look a little pedestrian smile.gif

Looking at the so call competition and what you want , a fast PC is superb but for the program your running , as i said years back I gave most all shoot-em ups for FSX .. looking at it I was turning the corner 15 plus years back .. I gave most all away .. for to build and the art side of it rather the play .

And me!! Though sadly these days I find it hard to find the time to dedicate as much time as I used to to the sim. But when I do I can rely on FS9 to give me smooth realistic flight with dozens of quality add ons, also exciting to see brands like Carenado still releasing models for us FS9'ers. A shame though there's no developers releasing updated NZ airports but I guess that's just a sign of the times. Will upgrade one day, but that day is still a long way away and I'll continue to enjoy FS9 for awhile yet!

The Good Old Days, certainly.
Not because it was back then, but because it was the first time there had been such interest in developing NZ stuff.

Just for fun I typed "New Zealand" into Flightsim.com's FS9 search box: 499 files.
Avsim: 496
OK most of them are Ian's various remakes of Christchurch... just kidding.
NZ scenery had been around a while.
Flightsim.com has an FS2000 Wigram by one "Ian J. Warren"
In 2003 the FS9 version followed: photoreal buildings! on Photoreal Christchurch!
In 2005 yet another rebuild!
Surely only Christchurch has had more rebuilds!

In 2007 there was yet another NZ game changer for me when Robin released Marlborough.
What a playground!
Huge photoreal area.
Not one, but three airports, each quite different in purpose.
And NZWB... I put commercial AI in there, GA, helo's (NH90's have been flying in my sim for 5 years!) Red Checkers, Herkie Birds, you name it.
And Warbirds, of course:

I come back here, time after time, just to fly around in that amazing backdrop.

Saving a bit of bandwidth, HD but Large Player (not fullscreen)
Just absorb it...

As to the numbers of FS9'ers: we are a modest lot smile.gif so there's not a lot of noise.
But as an indicator: after Robin graciously released this into the freeware world in 2012, it saw over 1,000 downloads.

That is 'James' Ian James Warren ... Shaken .. But not Stirred

.. gawd - to think that was built on the old FS6/FS98 , One person who never was reaconised was Phillip Middelmiss - the father off New Zealand Flight Simulation,.... in buying a PC in 1996 was a screen well a print on the wall sitting on the end off runway 11 looking directly at the Port Hills (Banks Peninsular) the mesh was incredible thus the first Wigram , due to restraints back then .. and the INTERNET what is that .. was it released .

Took the 'J' out .. thought i was getting spied on ninja.gif .......

I'd better fix that Harvard up and complete it ... the paint is as horrid as the real aircraft RNZAF Historical flights equals it .

Cool An FS9 post ...hahaha

Hi Guys ,
I still use FS9 as my base sim and I will do until something better pops up { still waiting for that pop up ...hahah } ,its hard to believe 10 years ago this sim was bought to the market place .I still cant think why MS did away with the aces studio given flight sim was very popular and does have a cult following with extensive 3rd party development support.I love FS9 with all the add-ons and computer power around to drive it hard its hard to beat it ... yes I know all the FSX guys will prove me wrong ...haha .But I think it is a testament to the FS community that it is still chugging away in the background with a loyal following I guess it doesn't matter what sim we are running as long as it brings us the enjoyment to fulfill a long time passion for aviation and keep us out of our partners hair for a couple of hours { they just don't understand what it is to land an airliner } Flight Simming will be around for years to come .Happy Birthday FS2004 .

cheers

Implicit in my post about Marlborough: in FS9 you could become a Movie Director!
FRAPS is still the benchmark video and screen capture software, been around about as long as FS9...

Another freeware addon that was a game changer: Recorder Module from Matthias Neusinger, arrived maybe a year after FS9 release
I've had hours playing with this, and still gives me a kick to put something together and make a clip.
Imagine you are on the grass at Omaka, clutching a cold one, and these fellas cruise in.
So COOL... HD and Fullscreen

If you understand a bit about RM: even COOLER.

EDIT: Oh, and NZFF"s very own Deane Baunton had a hand in this: the VC in the Blackhawk is his.
