And then go to their local cinema and happily watch a movie filmed and run at 24 fps - Hollywood knows the human eye cannot detect a difference in anything displayed faster.

HHmmm not exactly. Things like motion blur come into the equations as well. Compare the 24 versus 48 fps Hobbit movies as an example.
