Ideal Flight - the best FSX addon

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

I'm not sure how many of you have heard of or use Ideal Flight but this really speaks for itself. One key advantage I like is that IF generates a flight based on a desired flight time so it will seek out all available airports you can fly to given a specific flight duration. Some key features:

Press button creation of an "Ideal Flight" for any place, plane, or plan
Automatically applies your saved aircraft setup, then launches and monitors the flight
The most advanced flight plans for FSX to date; include oceanic tracks and TOC & TOD
IF processes any .PLN file into an "Ideal Flight". IF works for all aircraft and scenery
Automatically finds destinations that lie within a preferred flight time
The most accurate fuel and ETA calculation available, for any FSX flight plan
The most complete flight briefing available for any flight plan; shows in your kneeboard
The most complete flight assessment and debrief available for FSX, works for any flight
The most advanced thermal and deflected air currents simulation available; for any FSX weather
Complex failures and intermittant faults, with G-force and shock induced problems
The only weather engine available for FSX that uses a global simulation; weather everywhere
The only weather engine available with complex winds; ride jet streams to reduce your flight time
Save time en-route; "Advance to Next Waypoint", weather, time, and fuel compensated
See all your parked aircraft, wherever you parked them, whenever you fly
Only places Ai traffic nearby, so you don't have to turn up the traffic slider to see traffic
Search the world map; see an enlarged view of any airport; provides a complete scenery listing
Create airport subsets like "My Addon Airports" and only include these airports for searches
Start any number of programs with FSX
Generate scenery and aircaft reports for your browser
So much more it's hard to describe, the biggest bang per buck Addon ever delivered for FSX

The Leading Autoplanner
Global Weather Simulation
Thermal and Ridge Lift
Kneeboard Flight Briefing
Precise ETA and Fuel
FSX Automated
No Impact on Screen Frame Rates

Advanced FSX Upgrade:

Flight generator finds airports for your flight time and knows where you can fly to
Push-button create and launch fully featured flights with kneeboard briefing
Flights are monitored, assessed, debriefed, and added to a records database
In-flight menu of special functions include: Go to Approach and Pause at TOD
Automatic aircraft camera views and panels database
Adds seamless thermal and deflected air currents to any weather engine

Once you no what ya want ya simply set it yourself .. sorta like this shade type addon you don't need , what makes it fun is knowing how to navigate without having a program doing it for you , have map or even a simple school atlas making more aware of you fuel and alt and weather yourself cool.gif ... course then you go MP then it really gets fun .

This acts like more of a flight planner, something that is key to a successful flight. IMHO, Looking past the conveniences of some of the features it is an essential tool for setting up a flight. I use my VNC and do manual planning but when time is an issue for me this is what I use. Each to their own of course.

That's the best thing about it , able to use flight maps , I keep getting knocked by people wanting to learn NAV map reading , made a series of very readable A4 works fine you then get the purist - oh to old for me - they are to lazy and they can't even understand a simple map , guess also comes down to how much time you have after all that planing and things go awry ..

I do like your planning procedure , that's what its all about , fuel /time /payload/and diversion if required .. that's simming cool.gif

I guess we all follow varying procedures depending on a few factors.

There are the hard core simmers, the real world pilots, and the arcade simmers all of which are all in the same basket, meaning we all get our enjoyment in doing whatever makes us enjoy the sim whether it be following procedures to the T or cutting some corners to get a better look at the scenery or something else.
