Yes, for overseas visitors, I'd recommend NZSI, as this includes the alps and fiords, and it's the most mature, with a couple of updates already. NZNI doesn't have the grandeur of SI, but it does have a lot more quirky little touches which add to the interest over time.

For local people, I recommend whichever island you know the least!

As another overseas visitor I've been happy with NZSI but there appeared to be a change in artists and/or methods in NZNI and I don't have it.

I Have both and think they are both excellent. However the south island is by nature a far more interesting land scape with the southern alps and fiords etc. The North Island has less mountains, more hill ranges with interesting coast line etc

If I could only have one I would go for the South Island, and this is form a North Islander (North Shore of Auckland)

Although I personally fly more in the North Island as I like to fly to places I've been in real life, I do agree with the above that the South Island as a whole offers the better scenery. (why not spoil yourself and get both, you know you want to! winkyy.gif)

I actually differ to everyone else above...I find the clours wrong in parts of the South Island ...particularly around Wanaka - Queenstown where I like to fly (maybe this wil be corrceted with the Orbx Queenstown addon). While the colours aren't totally correct for the North Island (especially the the moment with the very dry summer we are having) they are better in my view. I also prefer the North Island because there are more airports and argubaly the landscape is also more varied than the South Island too.

Huey,

I'm with Naki on this one.

Don,t get me wrong, NZSI is superb looking scenery, but there is something about
NZNI that raises the bar.

It could be the new method ORBX has used with the autogen vegetation.
I can run NZNI with autogen at least 2 notchs further to the right.

And in real world, the islands ARE completely different, with the north being generally much greener
and lush.

So, work a little harder, get both, otherwise you only get half the wonder that
is NZ.

Cheers

You are right, but really if you didn't know the area, you wouldn't notice the fact that it isn't very accurate. There are plenty of comments on the Orbx forum about the beautiful, lush green Wanaka area, people love it, and they don't really care that it probably hasn't been green there since NZ was attached to Gondwana:) I do think, though, that in reality the South Island is a lot more stark and 'awe-full' than it can ever be modelled in FSX.

The reason why I'd still recommend NZSI is for the mountains. You could spend a long time exploring the mountain passes, add a bit of weather and you've got a real challenge. But as I said, NZNI has more long-term appeal, in that it makes better use of landclass and coastal variety. In the South Island, you've seen one pristine bush-clad slope you've seen 'em all, but in the North you can divide the island up into sections and get an entirely different experience in each area.

Hi mates, NZSI is ordered now. The reason why I take the South is, that i´m take a look at the screenshots of North and South. Yes, the landscape from the south is for my eyes a little bit better than the north. While that I take a look at the ORBX England Scenery too, but here is the most of landscape flat, so I will wait to FTX Germany and FTX Global.

I will give my very best at work and maybe the north NZ will beam to my PC. Thx to all.

Attention! If NZSI is installed on my PC i´m in a good Position to win the NZFF Screenshot Competition. tongue.gif

Im still having an internal struggle with this as well. Ive done a lot of flying in the South Island and if I bought Orbx's NZSI and it isn't right, if Wanaka was green, then Id be pretty disappointed. From the screen shots Ive seen, the west coast looks pretty good and the mountains look pretty good. I dunno, when Im over I might have to have a play on your system Ian and get the story first hand. Im also all about supporting VLC, being a local product and all.
