I am a Mormon from Utah, USA. It's a grand place - really love it.
I've been simming since I was 12 - found the Atari reissue of CFS1 for $10 at Walmart and have been hooked since then. I finally got a copy of FS2004 after some strife in 2006 - and there is where I have stayed. I have bought and tried FSX and Prepar3D - but I have not been able to get them to run OK on my machine - a mid-range laptop running W7x64. Besides, I'm sure my FS2004 payware tab must total in the thousands of US$s by now.
I discovered NZ through the wonderful Godzone sceneries by Robin Corn - and I've been spending an increasing amount of time there lately...

Hiya Folks smile.gif

Just wanted to introduce myself as a newbie (but not to flight simming). I started way back in the 80's with (cough) the wire frame models on the PC (pre Windows) and Amiga. (Ok,.. am showing my age here a bit!). After assisting a friend with his "Supercar" model in FS98, (a VTOL supersonic flying car of the future based on the 1958 TV show of the same name), I got severely hooked and have stayed that way since, following through with FS2000, 2002, FS9 and FSX.

I spent the early years in advertising agencies, moving to teaching at an Auckland Uni, and now am a freelance graphic designer (often having Flightsim chugging along next to my work computer, just enjoying the scenery - hey it beats TV any day!!) smile.gif

For quite a while, I loved tinkering with sci-fi vehicles, but have more turned my attention to classic and GA aircraft. Way back I got my students licence, but a mortgage soon took care of ending that! sad.gif Have loved aircraft and aviation before I could talk!

My latest tinkering is modifying the flight dynamic files to get more accurate performance, weights & fuel consumption. (I was quite surprised at how innacurate some of these models are in that regard, even from reputable 3rd party suppliers!)

I'm still running FS9 on a crusty PC, and FSX on a MacBook Pro Laptop under Bootcamp and Windows 7. Seems to work fine but ideally, I'm looking forward to a much more powerful machine in the near future.

I'm a big fan of Carenado aircraft, and have most of them (and have modified all of them, as above), but fairly "light" on scenery so far: Just FScene & the Red Baron NZ scenery on FSX. A lot more on FS9 including the same plus a globally-improved topo & Ultimate Terrain for the US & Canada, and the early release freeware of VOZ for Australia. Bit of a mish-mash.

For anyone who loves to make FSim models, I've been working on a 4-view set of schematics for the Moller Skycar M400M (the real one that's actually hovering - not yet available on any flightsim forums). Have had a lot of fun with the version that is available from FlightSim. *sigh* if only it were real winkyy.gif

Regards to all and am looking forward to getting to know you.

Cheers

KiwiElf smile.gif

PS - Is anyone else having issues with real world weather? - it seems to be the same for the last month or so - it doesn't change sad.gif

Big welcome here, it's a really friendly environment, and plenty of NZ stuff.
Good to hear of your interest in tinkering with the Carenado's - the FS9 C90 awaits your attention!
Perhaps we could discuss that in the Aircraft Subforum at some point!
Enjoy the stay...

Hi ya KiwiElf ,

Welcome home so to speak , outta the cold (cough) and from the 1980's windows i also looked into PC shops pre my Amiga , but a whooping great Amstrad 6128 ... not sure what the 6 was but the processor was huge 128kb .. wire frame had just been invented biggrin.gif

Freelance graphic design , that means you be in for the Screen Shot Competition this month , gear has to be BOLTED down but i'm sure we'd be bolted to our seats on a Newbie posting .. Mollers are bolted unless George Jetson has be around and modified it for yeah .

Off and away .. in ya flightsim today

Thank you!

(re the frame grab competition, am I allowed to cheat with Photoshop?? Kidding winkyy.gif) Haven't tried the Carenado C90 yet. Are there some issues with it? I love Carenado's C182T but it's a monster with memory - the latest offerings seem to the same - my Skymaster starts to look like a flying scrap heap after about 1hr - less over a busy city sad.gif Aghhh that new computer may need to be sooner than I think winkyy.gif

My name is Jasper and I'm an simmaholic....

Right, seriously now... I've been simming on and off for over 15 years now, and more in-depth since 2009.
Ever since Orbx released their New Zealand packages it has been my virtual homebase. I spend my time flying in FTX NZ, hopping over to FTX AU or even down to Aerosofts Antarctica X. I'm a satisfied RealNZ customer, with Auckland Supercity being the star in my flights to and from Auckland (I hope Orbx Auckland will play nice with it).
I also enjoy making my own repaints for addons that don't have a ZK-reg available as repaint yet.
So there lies my interest in NZFF, besides being slightly in love with New Zealand since I've been there on holiday in 2006...

Back in real life I live in the Netherlands, which is a bit of a letdown getting off the 747 after a couple of weeks NZ I'll tell ya. I get to fly planes for a living, the Jetstream 31/32, in areas that are not always easy to fly in and with crew who are not always fun to fly with. It is a great experience building machine though, and I don't think I'd be wrong to say that my manual flying skills will surpass those of most button pushers winkyy.gif.

I guess that's about all you'll need to know about me smile.gif. I registered here just to keep up to date with any stuff that has to do with NZ for my sim, and because of some of the awesome projects I saw (where can I donate for the Christchurch scenery rebuild, that's one heck of a job).

Any questions, just fire away! smile.gif

Hi ya Jasper and welcome back to New Zealand and welcome to NZFF smile.gif . Flying the JS31/32's , i was told by an ex-airline pilot that buy compare least the JS41 we had in the NZ they were a handful compared to what he flew the Dash8 he flew and had a lot of admiration for the pilots .

For the Christchurch scenery simply pm me with your email address and i will send you a link directly . Still a work in progress but it sits on the ORBX base without a issue and course other details like airports later . cool.gif

Thank you! Yeah, the Jetstreams can be quite a handful. On the other hand you can toss them around quite a bit without issues. Flying in between the heavies, keeping 180kts until 4nm final, then back to about 130kts and configured for landing within 1nm while maintaining a rock solid ILS approach.... Great fun smile.gif.

I've sent you a PM, and I was not kidding about the donating. It looks like payware quality and better from the screenshots in the thread.

Hello NZFF,

Not a flight sim addict myself, though I used to fly jets and choppers in Battlefield 2 competitively, they dont really count.
Im here because im building a better simulator for work, I work at Air Vanuatu, in Vanuatu, and our CAAVanuatu follow the NZ rules.

Excellent, I spent a brief period flying up there myself. I trust ZK-SLA didn't give you too many headaches winkyy.gif

It sure did. It didn't actually meet our SLA that we had with Air-works and we had to reduce the load from 120pax it was supposed to do down to 99 so we could carry enough fuel.
(apparently anyway this was the jist of my understanding, I run the IT department so I only heard the complaints).
