Thanks Ian ... now I have a question for you ...

Does doubling the texture size from 1024 to 2048 significantly impact performance (these days)? With this Rapide/Dominie, there really aren't *that* many textures, so I suspect the frame-rate "hit" wouldn't be too bad. Is it worth me working to 2048?

No real texture hit anymore , most production paints and payware scenery use this now as base textures so no real hit all .

Couldn't have put it better myself Ian.

Well done Adam, it's already looking pretty much like the photo. Will have to issue those civvies some blue uniforms though... just kidding.

Now there's an idea ... I may take a look at those ... after I've finished the aircraft itself. I quite like the way the current ones look out of the windows - not just straight ahead.

Good idea, even RNZAF aircraft get a little dirt on them now and then. You're going beyond the call of duty on this project Adam.

It's just that, quite often, the pure white areas bleach out completely and you lose all that lovely ribbing. What I'll do soon is make a beta version available on NZFSIM so I can get some feedback and maybe have people spot some "gotchas" that I may have missed ... then I'll put it up on the usual places. It's been very enjoyable so far ... plenty still to learn though (like what a specular bump map actually does laugh.gif)!

Great stuff Adamski! Another Kiwi repaint for my trusty Rapide and RNZAF too. That'll go really well with the NAC and MacRobertson Air Race liveries I have. Brilliant!

Dave Garwood mentioned in an aside on Classic British Flightsim last week that he's currently rebuilding the Rapide again. Can't wait for that... although I hope all the old repaints will still work!

Cheers,

Ade

Ooooh! Great! It's a tremendous aircraft - and it'd be great to have a more "up to date" version. What Dave did in the aircraft.cfg file is very clever - where a letter prefix determines what features show on the model.

Anyway ... here's the beta (around 6.7Mb) for you all to play with. Debug feedback to the email address in the readme please - rather than clutter up this thread winkyy.gif

However - it looks like I do need a bit of help ...

I'm having difficulty finding pics of the NZ 528 in *plan* view, so I can see the colours of the wings/tailplane. For instance - is the colour of the *top* of the upper wing and fuselage a pale blue (ie. neither white nor grey)?

See this pic ...

Similarly, it's hard to know what the *undersides* of the wings/tailplane are ...

She's done!!! ... My first repaint!! Yay!

dh89a_ZK-AKU.zip (around 6.7Mb).

I'm still not entirely sure whether the top of the fuselage is white or silver/grey ... but it's grey now laugh.gif

Thanks to GDNZ and IW for the help/encouragement thumbup1.gif
