Welcome, Ross - another from the "old country" to add to our growing list! biggrin.gif My Dad was from the Sussex area - emmigrated to NZ with his parents in 1948. My brother flies for BA (737-400 on the "milk runs" to the Med and western Europe) out of Gattwick. We've still got a few rellies living in the "home country", both in England and Ireland. I've not "been back" myself, but hope to in the next 10 years, finances allowing.

Being a winter boy, the thought of all that luverly snow and cold has me wishing I could trade places with you for a couple of weeks! Got my "counting down to winter" calendar ticking off the days until the end of May...

Hi Islandboy77,
Thanks for the welcome. It's funny, but we're counting the days til spring!!!!!
The snow looks nice, but its created transport chaos. Schools closed, people unable to get into work, etc.
Unfortunately, we're not used to this kind of severe weather here anymore & therefore can't cope with it.
We'd gladly swap places.
Ross.

Ah, now that's where the globalists have got ya Marty. They renamed it "Climate Change" - that way, they can blame absolutely anything and tax us thru the wazoo to "fix it". After all, I'm sure the "greenhouse gases" get a cut of High Priest Al Gore's fart taxes... tongue.gif dry.gif rolleyes.gif

My name's Euan and I grew up in England, moving here to Rotorua in 2003 due to family matters. I only just joined NZFF but have know about it for a long time. I originally discovered it through Google searching random things to do with Rotorua Aviation. Everyone at NZFF has made me feel really welcome which is just great. I've had my flight sim for a few years now along with my computer which since has been upgraded to Windows 7 Professional. Unfortunately I've forced to buy a new computer before next year due to requirements. I fly (sometimes), but I will tell you all about that in the near future. That's all smile.gif

Welcome Euan! I'm beginning to wonder if the whole of the British Isles is moving out to the "Antipodes"... winkyy.gif

Hiya Marty,
Thanks for the welcome.
Strange, but since the 'global warming' myth took off & they told us over here that we were getting warmer every year, we've had nothing but really bad winters!!!!!
I can remember winters like this back when I was a kid living in Scotland. Like others, I seem to think its a myth & another reason to tax us out of existence.
The power companies here are making a killing. They say the cost of the raw materials has gone up by 10%, then put bills up by 25%!!!!
Funny thing is, when the cost of bringing the stuff in goes down, the bills never go down!!!!!
It got totally tropical here yesterday though, daytime temp reached above zero for the 1st time in about a week.
Don't worry, I'm staying warm alright. Good excuse to do some simming or reading NZFF.
Ross.

Hello,

Let me introduce myself. My name is Carlo, 41 years old from Holland. Been simming for about 15 years but only since FS9 was released i'm 'addicted' to it. Still using FS9 today. I'm also a longtime member of the Simviation forums but trying to expand my horizons. Most of my simtime I spend in Alaska, parts of Canada and Washington State. Don't know much about New Zealand but already looking into some great scenery for this part of the world.

Expect some nice screenshots from me,

Carlo cool.gif

Hope you are joking !
If not, I am awfully sorry to say "they" are right.(if you want me to explain why western Europe get cooler in winter, I can do that-but it's maybe not be the place).
Like "they" were right in NZ about the 245T more than 30 years ago ("sorry mate, they are all dead")

At least, we are not making pollution flying with Flight Simulator (with FS9-as for FSX you'll probably nead another super computer made in China tongue.gif )

Have a good day all ! New_Zealand_etc.gif

*BIG* welcome Carlo ... some of my best simming friends have been Dutch. You may find NZ a little bit more "bumpy" than Holland laugh.gif.

We seem to have gone screenshot mad on NZFF lately so you've come to the right place! Don't forget to enter the monthly competiton(s)!!!

It's dead easy to debunk the GW myth. Goes like this:
Q: What is the largest reservoir of CO2 on earth?
A: The ocean, covering 71% of the surface (approx 1.3 to 1.5 BILLION CUBIC KMs!!! ohmy.gif )

Q: What is the largest source of cooling and heating the oceans?
A: The sun (1.3 MILLION KMs in diameter, or 109 x the size of earth!)

Note: About sun's energy: 'each square meter of area facing the Sun receives about 1380 joules per second (nearly 2 horsepower)' http://www-istp.gsfc.nasa.gov/stargaze/Sun7enrg.htm

Therefore: cool sun, CO2 is "stored" by the ocean. Warm sun, CO2 is released by the ocean. Of course, since the ocean is so immense, release of CO2 from "the depths" takes decades, and the reverse is also true.

So, earth's climate is dictated almost solely by the sun what heats or cools the ocean, not man's puny effort. Sure, we can do "environmental damage" and localised stuff. But, bar letting off every nuke we've got, man's efforts at climate change are minuscule.

GW is nothing more than a socialist / globalist stunt to impoverish the masses (that's you and I) and exert control and influence. One only has to put 2 seconds thought into "carbon credits" to see how farcical the whole thing is.

And anyway, until China, India and all the other big polluters around the world get their A into G, anything puny old NZ does is worse than laughable: it's madness. But, since NZ is a UN vassal state, we should not be surprised... dry.gif

*Totally* agree on the cause (and man's contribution being almost significant). However - I take exactly the opposite view as to who capitalises on this mis-information. It's the capitalist/consumer society that's using it as a big stick to beat the (usually poorer) opposition - and get a competitive edge.

They're already marketing "GW Ready" clothing ... it's a marketing con - nothing else. Do we have a smiley for "running/ducking for cover? laugh.gif

Hi everyone,

My name is Dave and here is a bit about me:

I'm a Kiwi living in the Gold Coast but will be returning to NZ in early Feb 2011 to start IOTC at RNZAF base Woodbourne.

Gaming wise I played the Battlefield series of games (42 through bf2) with a good amount of success (with -NN-, c3, exile5 for those who have played) but havent really touched games in the last year or so!

So anyway, being the complete newbie I am, I didnt realise that planes and scenery could be updated with addons until reading through your forums (I can hear the facepalms). So, as a starting point, I would really like to put together as many RNZAF planes as possible. Currently I have the freebies - the seasprite, ct-4, strikemaster. I will probably be purchasing Kahu this afternoon after seeing the great screenshots from the forums.

I realise this isnt really the place for it, but would anyone be able to recommend any links to download models/skins for other RNZAF planes? If possible i'd really like to get my hands on the Huey, Aermacchi, NH-90, A-109, Herc, Orion, 757, harvard. I dont really want to be spending a whole heap of money (ie. saw a herc for like US$70+ and couldnt believe my eyes), but am happy to purchase payware. I appreciate that this information is already kinda of scattered through the forums, but everytime I find one it seems to just be a repaint without the base model. Could it be an idea to set up a thread with just RNZAF models and repaints? haha maybe overstepping the mark on my first post! smile.gif (or maybe I am just blind and cant find it).

Thanks all and I look forward to getting to know you better. Please feel free to PM me if that would be easier - I appreciate this asking a lot from a first post! I really appreciate your help.

Regards,
Dave

PS. I am currently running FSX with acceleration

Welcome Dave ,
Dang you just missed out on a sale by Captain Sim , you would have got the 757 and C130 at a hugely reduced price , the P3 tho a freeware is one you can start with and that is near payware quality . smile.gif

You will need to install the service packs first tho .

Cheers , Ian

Thanks for the welcome, Ian.

Apologies, I have installed FSX:acceleration. Are there any patches that need to be applied if I have both of those installed?

Thanks again,
Dave

You only need the SP1 and 2 , If your training at Woody you might want to get Robins RealNZ Malborough - with the VLC , a cheap Mic get on to TeamSpeak3 (guide to get you started in the forum thread ) and you will be training hog heaven , you obviously have Nigel Booths CT-4E , we Multiplay here very regular , but also give good background to the area and an entire squadron to fly with .

Scenery-wise, where is the best place to start? Would purchasing VLC be the ideal starting point? My flights mostly consist of flying between Ohakea, Woodbourne, Whenuapai etc with my old-man (ex-rnzaf) on multiplayer. Is there any way to update those airports?

BIG welcome to you, Dave!

If you do ever get back into BF2, look out for Adamski_NZ on the Gamearena servers. I still pop up from time to time, when I'm not fed up with all the hacks. Seems like everyone but me uses them.

As for planes - try www.nzfsim.org. It's a site I put up to try collate all the info for purely NZ repaints. No files are stored there, but it's a fairly comprehensive list of links. A good place to start, anyway!

For scenery, I'd say any/all of Rob's Godzone series. I can't imagine FSX NZ without them now. If you have any cash left over, then VLC is also a must. Mike (Creator)'s HamiltonX is a beaut as well.

Most people that create repaints or scenery for NZ seem to live here on NZFF ... so do a good trawl!!
