A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby tomneale » Thu Jul 08, 2010 6:23 pm

Gooday all !

Glad to be back in New Zealand clapping.gif (if you don't mind my saying so, I feel a little bit at home there)

We (the wife and I) visited New Zealand aboard our small yacht (we went there 10 times).
As we are now too old to travel the same way, we will take great pleasure in flying over. plane.gif

Gidday everyone,

After a few years enjoying IL-2, I purchased FSX about 6 months ago, and am totally hooked on the realism of it.

My favorite at the mo is Vintage aircraft, and have been enjoying the learning curve of the DC-3.

I've been scanning this site for the last two or three months and have learned a lot from here, so I thought it was high time I joined.

Been saving my pennies for VLC, might be a good Christmas pressie to myself.

Thanks for the great site. New_Zealand_etc.gif

Pepper.

Welcome!!

The DC-3 is one of my absolute FSX favourites. If you're a Kiwi (or even if you're not!) then the NZ Warbirds repaint is a must. I just love trundling around the stunning NZ landscape with it. I managed a ride to Ohakea in the real thing a couple of years ago ... what a treat!!!

If you're into vintage and realism ... any of the Accusim aircraft won't disappoint.

Following Adams recommend , the Areosoft Catalina , so many gorgeous models out there , even the freewares such as the Lockheed L188 Electra - Adrian Brausch has recently painted in historical TEAL and ANZ schemes , a few there you need to host on your Kiwi paints site Adam cool.gif

Hey everyone, I hope you're all having a great day.

Well, I took the plunge and brought myself FS2004 today and ordered a Saitek X52, which I am waiting on before I can properly get into it. Not my first time on a sim, as I did have FS2000, but I had a dreadful computer, and no joystick which kinda made the game unplayable, but impressed by some vids and reviews on the web, I decided to have another go! I have a techie question which I will post in the tech section, basically to do with my setup, and any advice would be greatly appreciated. (Just hope you guys and girls don't think I still have a dreadful computer!)

Well done on the site, looks fantastic and seems like everyone here is a real good bunch! I hope I can contribute in the future as I get some more experience!

Cheers to you all, Pom (aka Alex)! smile.gif

Welcome!!! Another Alex ... arrrrgh!!! laugh.gif ... yes, the natives here are friendly!

I used to have FS2004 but am now on FSX. However ... I do have an X-52 so may be able to help out on that score if needed. What O/S are you on? XP/Vista/Win7?

I know I'm not the only "Alex" so I don't mind if you all call me Pom!

I would love to run FSX, but my computer says no! I'm on a pretty basic PC with XP and "The Wife" won't let me spend heaps, so for now FS2004 will have to do! As long as it keeps me occupied when I'm at home and not driving trains around Auckland I'll be happy!

Dont worry you're not the only one, my situations very similar (esp the Wife bit tongue.gif ) so am dabling with FSX here and there, and slowly buying some payware aircraft for it that arent framerate killers but I spend way more time in FS2004.

Today i still use FS9 but primary on FSX , there are many free scenery for FS9 , your really going to enjoy FS2004 .

G,day all,
My name is Ross & I live in Gloucester, UK. I've worked on the railways here in the UK since leaving school 29 years ago. Happily married to Liz, no kids. We've been to 'Godzone' 4 times now in the last 6 years, visiting family & friends. These trips re-awakened my childhood interest in aviation. I've been simming now for about 6 years using FS9. I started flying mainly heavy metal, but with the introduction of the RealNZ sceneries & the freeware airports from 'Snowman', I'm now spending my simming time flying GA around NZ & the S. Pacific. I've been a regular reader of NZFF for a while, so I thought it's about time I 'joined up'.
Best wishes to you all from a freezing cold UK.
Ross.

Hiya adamski.
Gloster ain't changed much since you left.. We've been here since 2000. Moved from N. Wales due to my work. Mywife, Liz works in Stroud. We're currently inthe process of trying to emigrate to NZ. After our trip over there, my wife got offered a job in Auckland. Unfortunately, the employers had not done enough advertising to satisfy Immigration NZ so it's all on hold for now.

Welcome, Ross - another from the "old country" to add to our growing list! biggrin.gif My Dad was from the Sussex area - emmigrated to NZ with his parents in 1948. My brother flies for BA (737-400 on the "milk runs" to the Med and western Europe) out of Gattwick. We've still got a few rellies living in the "home country", both in England and Ireland. I've not "been back" myself, but hope to in the next 10 years, finances allowing.

Being a winter boy, the thought of all that luverly snow and cold has me wishing I could trade places with you for a couple of weeks! Got my "counting down to winter" calendar ticking off the days until the end of May...
