Random multiplayer hosting evenings

For everything about online flying around New Zealand

Postby Venge » Sat May 15, 2010 8:32 am

First off, I would like to qualify that I am not very experienced with multi playing in FSX or with NZFF so any ideas or assumption put forth here could be way off base.
By the looks of it there are no official 'server' for NZFF at this point in time. At least none that I could find in these forums so far. I was thinking we could increase the social aspect of FSX combined with NZFF by having random people host multiplay sessions on our own PC's while doing our nightly playing.
For example, some evenings I find myself playing FSX for 2 or 3 plus hours. I hop onto teamspeak and there are usually a few there to chat to while I am in my own NZ airspace. What I am suggesting is for those who think they may be online for an hour or more (whatever) and are happy to host a session that we should either post here or someone (on a nightly basis) saying something along the lines of "Am on for a while tonight, have started a multiplay session all are welcome to join. Sessions is named VengeTour and password is NZFF."
It is not necessary to have specific organized events on the evening you decide to host (although perfectly fine to have something organized if you so wish). I was thinking even if we are flying on opposite ends of NZ it would be fun to at least be in the same instance of FSX simply for the hell of it. Also ad hoc type things would have a better chance to happen.
People are free to hop on and do their own thing or welcome to form up with others that may want to kind of thing.
Of course it will be a hit and miss thing, I mean I could intend to be on for a few hours and start up a session (if one is not already started) and then have something happen in real life that requires me to have to shut down my PC. I wouldn't want people to be pressured to keep multiplaying because they were kind enough to host that evening. Just a purely hit and miss kind of affair that has a chance of increasing the social and fun aspect that is flight simming in NZ.

So, to sum up.
-if you think there is a chance you will be on for a bit post in these forums that you intend to host (after checking no one else is hosting at that moment). Accepting the fact that you may be alone regardless of your hosting efforts. Have some sort of standard post title (Maybe a date and time thing, like "Hosting Now, Sat night, 15/05" In the body of the message post session name and pword if one is used. Might be a nice idea for you to post in that thread when you end that session.
-other check the forums before starting their own session so they join instead of making a new one.
-Play and have fun.

Like I said, it is quite possible this is a silly idea for one reason or another, but I figured what the hell, get some feedback and see what the more knowledgeable guys have to say about this sort of idea, and also to see if anyone of any skill/knowledge are interested. We may have to have set standards like Daytime only sessions for those not comfortable with night flying. That sort of thing. Make it standard(ish) so people who want to join in but do their own thing will be able to.

My wife came home with some DVDs to watch, so I may be AWOL tonight. See how it goes. Then of course there is work tomorrow so won't be doing a late nighter,

Hi Venge,

Just joined this forum, and trolling through it all, noted your post.

Online in FSX certainly is easy and makes for a very social environment.

Here in OZ we clock up many hours each week, mainly on a Fri night, where we average 8-10 online
for an evening session.

What we do is post in the calendar function of our forum, giving the time, proposed route, etc etc.
Our start times are always posted in GMT (Zulu) time as we have guys in NZ,Europe and USA joining sometimes.

No server as such cause I host( as my internet connex seems pretty stable) we fire up TS for comms, or sometimes use the onboard sound setup
and communication via the aircraft radios. While we like to observe good airmanship we prefer uncontrolled (OZx)
strips, we are not overly pedantic on procedures, we just try to enjoy ourselves.

Some pilots have difficulty finding those tiny outback strips,so we often have a flight of exploration.

Other flights are what we call "Rendezvous" flights where we all start from different locations and try
to arrive at a common destination about the same time.

So yeah, this type of stuff is quite addictive, so I hope you guys get to do more of it, once there is better(VLC or ORBX) scenery
coming thru. We also use REX and have a common theme loaded, so we are all seeing the same effects.

Hope this is of interest to you

cheers

TonyM

Hello NZ Chums!

Paul, from England here.... smile.gif ....!

A newcomer to NZ on-line Multiplayer Flights.

Having spent the past 10+ years, daily, on and American Flight Sim Site, (Simviation), exploring mainly the whole of California in great detail, much of the time being spent on their generally busy Multiplayer Server, I thought I would pop over to New Zealand and explore the lovely countryside there, for a change!
But I do notice that it is very quiet on the InSPire.Net Server, [203.114.130.15].... sad.gif ...!

Are there any Members who regularly use the NZ Server during the day?

There are always the problems with differing Time Zones, but I find that my morning flights tie up very well with the NZ Pilots evening times!

So, there you go, Chums.....are Multiplayer Flights/Tours popular on the NZ Server?

(I could do with a guided Tour around some of the various NZ haunts!... winkyy.gif ...)

At the moment I'm busy installing the various Scenery add-ons for North and South Islands, with details supplied by one of my Flight Sim Chums from Simviation.... thumbup1.gif ...!

I'm also populating the areas with my LAGO FSE and Abacus Ez-Scenery programs.

I look forward to meeting you in the Air, on Multiplayer [203.114.130.15] http://203.114.130.15:81/ .... biggrin.gif ...!

FS 2004 and FS Navigator....Mostly low-level, General Aviation Aircraft, from Microlights/Flexwings to Barons/King Airs!

Paul.....(Fozzer)....G-BPLF... cool.gif ...!

Hello Ian... thumbup1.gif ...!

Many thanks for the warm welcome!.. smile.gif ...!

I have FSX, (including all the other M$ Flight Sims), but the thing I really like about FS 2004 for Multiplayer activities, (and everything else!), is the ease of connecting to the Multiplayer Servers at the instant click of a button, eg the NZ Server...>>> http://203.114.130.15:81/ , as well as the ability to use the fantastic FS Navigator with its Radar, and Radio Navigation facilities.... clapping.gif ...!

Cheers!

P.S. Is [203.114.130.15] the official NZFF Multiplayer Server?

Hey guys, sorry I have not been keeping up with this thread.
I have not been using FSX much lately. I know with the pending release of VLC that FSX will be consuming my computer time so I guess I am kind of saving myself for that smile.gif
