First off, I would like to qualify that I am not very experienced with multi playing in FSX or with NZFF so any ideas or assumption put forth here could be way off base.
By the looks of it there are no official 'server' for NZFF at this point in time. At least none that I could find in these forums so far. I was thinking we could increase the social aspect of FSX combined with NZFF by having random people host multiplay sessions on our own PC's while doing our nightly playing.
For example, some evenings I find myself playing FSX for 2 or 3 plus hours. I hop onto teamspeak and there are usually a few there to chat to while I am in my own NZ airspace. What I am suggesting is for those who think they may be online for an hour or more (whatever) and are happy to host a session that we should either post here or someone (on a nightly basis) saying something along the lines of "Am on for a while tonight, have started a multiplay session all are welcome to join. Sessions is named VengeTour and password is NZFF."
It is not necessary to have specific organized events on the evening you decide to host (although perfectly fine to have something organized if you so wish). I was thinking even if we are flying on opposite ends of NZ it would be fun to at least be in the same instance of FSX simply for the hell of it. Also ad hoc type things would have a better chance to happen.
People are free to hop on and do their own thing or welcome to form up with others that may want to kind of thing.
Of course it will be a hit and miss thing, I mean I could intend to be on for a few hours and start up a session (if one is not already started) and then have something happen in real life that requires me to have to shut down my PC. I wouldn't want people to be pressured to keep multiplaying because they were kind enough to host that evening. Just a purely hit and miss kind of affair that has a chance of increasing the social and fun aspect that is flight simming in NZ.
So, to sum up.
-if you think there is a chance you will be on for a bit post in these forums that you intend to host (after checking no one else is hosting at that moment). Accepting the fact that you may be alone regardless of your hosting efforts. Have some sort of standard post title (Maybe a date and time thing, like "Hosting Now, Sat night, 15/05" In the body of the message post session name and pword if one is used. Might be a nice idea for you to post in that thread when you end that session.
-other check the forums before starting their own session so they join instead of making a new one.
-Play and have fun.
Like I said, it is quite possible this is a silly idea for one reason or another, but I figured what the hell, get some feedback and see what the more knowledgeable guys have to say about this sort of idea, and also to see if anyone of any skill/knowledge are interested. We may have to have set standards like Daytime only sessions for those not comfortable with night flying. That sort of thing. Make it standard(ish) so people who want to join in but do their own thing will be able to.
