A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby Jonay » Sun Aug 31, 2008 1:20 am

Hello NZFF, Im Jonay, short for Jonathan

Im 17 (18 on the 10 Sept though biggrin.gif ) and i am from sunny Scotland!

What brought me here was a post from Hueyteam on Alphasim advertising the new NH90 due to come out, and ive been checking here eveyday to see if its been made avaliable yet!

Also im thinking of doing a FS "world tour" and i'd like to get your opinion on where to go in NZ!

In the real world, im a glider pilot, of the Grob 109B Vigilant motor glider, so basically a light A/C just with massive wings! Im unter training to become a instructor so i can teach 13-20 year olds how to fly too, im a member of the AirCadets so thats how i got round to doing that!

Also Im under going selection to get into the Royal Navy to be a Rotary pilot, i have my Admiralty Interview Board in Feburuary so im looking forward to that! biggrin.gif

It looks like you guys are a friendly bunch so I think ill stick around to see what the craik is! biggrin.gif

Thanks for reading and i hope you dont feel im intruding!

Hello NZFF,

My name is Chris and I am from Tauranga learning to fly with Bayflight nearly about to do my first Solo flight.
I have been flight Siming since I was 8 playing Flight Sim 95 doing my first circuit in Megis Field, Since then I have bought all the Versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Now I have the latest version of Flight Simulator, FSX which I think is the best so far.

I am looking forward to taking part of NZFF forums and I am pleased to be part of the NZFF Family.

Kind regards

Chris

Hey I'm Michael,

I've been receiving the emails from here for ages. Probably gonna become a bit more active now.

Just reading Chris's story, mine's very much like his, started playing 95 when I got it for free with an old Need for Speed game. Also got my joy stick then too. Never played Need for Speed, just played flight sim the entire time.

And strangely enough I also spent most of my time at meigs field, I was always doing the 34 knot crosswind landing tutorial, which was my first ever landing, in a 34 knot cross wind. tongue.gif

Got FSX + Acceleration, tis great.

Anyway, Hello!

Welcome to the NZFF, you guys will see that there's a lot of passion here about our hobby.
One of the things you may take on board concerns software piracy...
Many flightsim developers move into payware so they can spend more of their time producing great products for us (not because they are greedy).
They actually need your encouragement to improve our hobby.
If you steal their stuff, they will lose heart and stop doing it.

You won't find discussion here about stealing stuff, and for good reason: it'd be like strangling something you love!

Yes he did, and my post had nothing to do with his welcome message at all.

Greetings fellow simmers and Happy New Year!!
. Baz here 46, born and bred here in (currently) sunny Christchurch. Been involved with real aircraft off and on since I was a teenager working at the RNZAF museum(18 and got to ground run the Avenger!) and got my PPL at the Canterybury Aero Club. I even owned my own plane for a while (1944 MK 5 Auster ex-RAF TW502 and ZK-AUH).Love warbirds especially WW2!
Currently haven't flown since 2005 but have done a bit on FS2004 and more recently FSX. Just upgraded my PC so pretty much have everything on ultrahigh and it looks great. Using an IFR guide off here I finally managed to land a 737 at Christchurch without either plowing into the ground, landing then wondering why I couldn't stop(the old left the autothrottles on trick)or sailing over the airport completely. Hooray!! Next step is to master a trip online without p*****g anyone off as I try to follow procedures correctly! So if you are online and you see a 737 doing things it shouldn't.....................it'll be me! Also there is a TBF Avenger for FS2004 which I want to try (MAAM) and which has two RNZAF colour schemes and apparently looks and sounds like the real thing. So maybe don't look out for a 737 on finals but an Avenger!! biggrin.gif

G'day Avenger, welcome to the community. Jeeze it seems like the virtual-only "pilots" like meself are in the majority, so many real-world folks like yourself smile.gif
