Thanks! But still no word from either Avsim.Com or Flightsim.Com on the copyright/file linking questions. Kind of crucial, really

What's crucial exactly? We can create our own screenshots if need be, and if you can't link then just provide the filename?
BTW, was thinking, be nice to have a form so someone who's not an admin can submit/suggest a new item (maybe with some CAPTCHA widget to stop spammers) which might end up in some temporary state until an admin validates/approves the entry? I spose you already had that in mind, but just in case.Last edited by deeknow on Fri Dec 12, 2008 1:10 pm, edited 1 time in total.Deans repaints: http://www.deeknow.com/

The "crucial" thing is the possibility of saving masses of time. There are *hundreds* of entries to search out, check links, write a description for. Not everyone (here on NZFF) will have all the add-ons installed, so screenshots may be a problem. Asking for/adding screenshots for huge numbers of items would be a labour of love
It's be really handy to just copy both thumbnail + description from a couple of sources. Both of are usually provided by the repaint authors anyway, so there shouldn't really be a copyright problem. I's just that I'm not too happy to just grab stuff off other people's sites. I suppose just a filename and source website address could work - but then each user would have to login, search etc. etc. I think some servers are set up so they won't accept physical direct linking anyway - so the links thing may be a bit of a moot point.
Yes (thanks!) - I'd already started on a non-admin submission form (captcha protected) before I "downed tools". It's basically identical to the admin one, but just set to be inactive till admin approves it. People's spelling can be pretty erratic, so it'd be good to keep some sort of checking before they go live. The more the (non-admin) people can submit themselves, the easier the job will be for the admins.
I may just bite the bullet and go ahead - add stuff that I have on my system - and create my own descriptions. Play it by ear.

Deane .. you'll be delighted to see that your "'Fletch" made it into the [full length] banner on the home page... showing my 3 favourite aircraft for FSX.
P.S. I hope that's OK with you!!!!Last edited by Adamski on Fri Dec 12, 2008 5:51 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Would love to ... gimme some details
I'll be working on the "add new" scripts soon - so I may as well be entering real stuff as I test. Currently I'm adding directly on the database (not good!).
