Airbus A-321

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

When ever i fly the stock standard a321 i seem to have no rudder control in the air, works fine on the ground tho, is this a problem everyone gets? is this what the real a321 does, any ideas on why it might be happening to me?

Yeah i get the same even with my addon airbus A320, i only get the rudder movement back once im below a certain speed or just before the landing it seems ,,yes i hate it too but live with it because it mite be right just doesnt help the crab into the finals much

Sounds like you have configured the nose wheel steering (steering tiller??) rather than the actual rudder... as nosewheel steering only works below a certain speed.

might pay to double check the control settings and documentation for the aircraft

Hmm if both of you get it with different versions of the same aircraft (i.e default and payware) then I wonder if it is a feature of the Airbus control system? Perhaps the flight computers sort out rudder balance for cruise flight but give control back to the pilots for maneouvers for landing etc?

Well after studying asymmetric flight today im sure this can't be how it works, because the pilots really need the rudder is they lose an engine. Figured maybe it would come on line after an engine failure but no, I slowly rolled over, went into a flat spin, and hit the deck just before the firth of thames after a failure on take off out of auckland international. Any ideas on how to get the rudder working inflight? my key configs are all set to default.

While Airbus definitely does use computers to modify flight control inputs from the pilots, it does not stop the rudder from being used at all. As people have suggested that would be dangerous and just plane stupid! wink.gif

I find the flight characteristics of the default A-321 very stupid and unrealistic (were talking about FSX right?). It seems like they tried to do a cheap modeling of Airbus' Fly-by-Wire system. What I get is very sluggish controls above 500ft and suddenly as I am just about to land the controls get VERY sensitive. I have the WILCO A320 and this doesn't happen with that one, so I'm inclined to think they are right. I also get full rudder movement from the WILCO A320 aircraft at any speed or altitude, as I'm sure you would in the real aircraft (although most likely moderated by the flight computers).

So firstly I recommend ditching the default A-321, it sucks... But possibly there is something wrong with the configs, so maybe you should get your FSX discs and search through the compressed folders for the Simobjects folder and copy the A-321 Aircraft folder into your FSX location. I used winrar to search through the compressed folders for FS9, not sure about FSX.
