Could not agree more. True FSX aircraft are not FPS killers, buth the ones simply ported over to FSX are.

I have spent a bunch of time getting FSX optimized for my machine recently and I'm very surprised by some of the results....

1. FSX Addon aircraft provide better (higher FPS) than even the default aircraft. The DA Fokker and Aerosoft addons are the best examples I have found; around a 20% increase over the default KingAir for instance. Even the Wilco E-Jets, Legacy, LSH Maddog 2006, LDS763 and PMDG 744 perform well...

2. I added Flight Environment X and was terrified the Ultra high res textures would cripple my FPS....they actually increased by about 2 or 3 FPS...

3. ActiveSkyX gave me another 2 or 3 FPS...

4. Gaining confidence, but still certain I could sabotage the effort with Ultimate Terrain I put on UT Europe....another slight increase in FPS....(I'll be adding UT-USA and Canada very soon)

5. Boosted by almost unimaginable swagger at this point I threw down the credit card and put Aerosoft's new VFR-London on....very usable, but a drop of about 15-20% in frames...the fun has to end sometime...

One bit I do whenever I install an addon and once a week regardless is to run defrag on my FSX hard drive. This does make a noticeable improvement. I use O&O's defrag program with the "name" option as per a recommendation by PMDG...

Where I had thought FSX would be limited to GA flying I'm now keenly keeping an eye on the SquawkBox 4 reports and so far they look very good. I anticipate flying online with FSX very soon....

Cheers,

Yeah i was suprized at this aswell running those huge 4000 something bitmaps i gained flps back ohmy.gif and now are able to run clouds and water textures at higher rates ,now we just need to do something about the traffic hits when enabled ,anyone come across a good fix for that yet ,this is a main feature i think of X and i hate to say but i never have them on seeing it hits flps so hard when enabled

Creator...if you find one please let me know....I run with traffic set at minimal and then airlines set to 30% and in some locations it's acceptable....but horrid in most...

Yeah if there was something already i would have it ,cars and boats traffics are the ones i want the most ,aircraft doesnt worry me much ,that addon london VFR looks like a massive addon with 50.000 of this and another 40.000 custom objects there ,i cant imagine how much work that is to make but if i could have that many addon objects in one scenery why cant i have acouple of planes boats and cars running ?

seems abit of a joke when it comes to that ,anyway ill be sure to let you know and others if and when i find a fix for traffic

i use the world of ai traffic, and have the airline traffic set at 70% i have ships and boats set at 30% and also run vehicles at 10% airport traffic at minimal seems to give me good traffic volumes at little performance hit (1-5fps) i enjoy it, but am goin back online soon, so traffic is a mute point. i also use the VOZai for fsx
In the ongoing battle between objects made of aluminum going hundreds of miles per hour and the ground going zero miles per hour, the ground has yet to lose.

creator- I recently tried a thing I found on Youtube- it involves converting all the textures in Scenery/Global, Scenery/Aust, Scenery/Ocen etc to DXT1a format......It made a very slight difference on my machine but, like any FPS problem it depends where your bottle neck is. Mine is in the CPU and HDD speed which wouldnt really be helped alot by doing this (I would imagine it would help those with slower/less RAM'd graphics cards)

I would provide a link but youtube is blocked here at work. It gives detailed instructions in the video descrption, the video shows the before/after results which were impressive on his machine.

yeah there is a link to download a little image app based on the Nvidia image tools- It allows batch processing. I did the Scenery/Global/texture folder in three groups but the number you can do is simply limited by your machine (and mine is nothing special). The other ones I could do in one go.

I didnt bother doing the other regions as I never fly there....only the building/object textures which i'll see in NZ and Aussie. It maybe took 2 hours all up? I backed up everything first too but havent had any problems as yet.

For me :

Robin Corn's Wellington New_Zealand_etc.gif
Ultimate Traffic
Radar Contact
Level-D 767
Wilco/FT 737

These are all specific FSX versions (already owned the FS9 versions for all five, but paid for the FSX versions - none ported over).

I am really pleased with FSX on my PC. I bought the machine a year ago and have never been able to get FS9 to work properly on it - as my number of uncompleted flights logged on VATSIM shows pirate.gif ). But since I cleaned up the machine completely and switched over to FSX : all sweet clapping.gif .

Emile.

Only the Last two, the rest updated FS9

Tahiti X and the Twotter.

Maybe three if Rob's Wellington for FSX counts.

Cheers
