Not sure about the AI but the scenery could have big crash boxes around it and if the user has crash detection ON it will crash like that explained, the test would be to turn that setting off like if you were to go out heli flying ,and try a restart there ,also would be anyone else with ardmore in FSX and try with and without that setting on ..
If the FSX crashes back to desktop i would rebuild the cfg or remove the scenery or old AFCAD file that mite be from 2002 addon scenery Ardmore ,,really i wouldnt myself run that older scenery in FSX if this user has ..
hope this has helped

Does he have the 'Ardmore Experience' scenery installed? This includes the giant birds (100 times their proper size) which would certainly cause major birdstrike problems if you had crash detection turned on...

i have got the ai traffic running, almost flew into a boeing 737 on approach into rotarua, apparently i was using the wrong runway plus without atc, had no idea he was taking off till i heard the engines and realised the runway lights werent runway lights at all, haha.

The ardmore scenery is from here http://nzff.org/maps/ not sure how old it is and i havent tried turning the crash option off yet, i will soon tho and let you guys know. Cant wait til godzone releases the auckland scenery!

The block coastline is to do with the red barron mesh, i dunno why it does that but when i turn it off the coast line comes back. Any help?

also just a general query, how come there isnt as many add on for fsx as there is for fs9? im thinking about getting a copy of fs9 just cos the addons look amazing! also with the ai traffic what setting do you guys run? custom or ultra high?

The coastlines look more like a faulty topo scenery install than mesh.

Here's the quick answer to why there are not as many FSX addons:
Most freeware projects take a long time to complete, from when someone decides to start a project to when it is completed is more likely to be a year or two. (I'm not talking about actual development time, most of this is just psyching yourself up to start:)

And once you finish a project and look to start another, you can either use the skills you've gained and start another FS2004 project, or take another year or two to learn to develop for FSX.
FSX is in fact a lot more difficult to develop for, mainly because it is such a huge jump in realism that a developer has to work a lot harder to match the 'look' of FSX -- you can't get away with cartoony aircraft and scenery any more. The tools are actually better than FS2004, but still not designed for ease of use.

Payware is in a similar position, except that payware projects take longer.

I think that if you asked 10 different people what AI settings they used you'd get 20 different answers. It's easy enough to play with the settings, and see if a) you get the AI you want, and b) you get the performance you want.
