Well, yes and no. On the point and shoot settings on DSLRs, the shots actually come out worse than on a normal point and shoot. But If you do have a reasonable level of skill and quite good knowledge of photography, the shots are obviously going to be better than.
What type of camera do you have atm? I went from Point n Shoot --> Super Zoom --> DSLR. This enabled me to learn alot of the manual settings on the Super Zoom, and get reasonable shots, unlike on a DSLR where shots with the wrong settings look worse than bad.
As for the long exposure time shots, Yeah, ive taken a few- But none in the proper environment. Im off to Melbourne/Sydney in 2 weeks where I should be able to show you some results if you wish.
