Third Party GPS (fs9)

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby Chairman » Thu Sep 04, 2008 9:44 am

Does anyone know of a third party gps add-on which will allow you to build a route in the gps rather than just import the .pln file ?

Preferably one which uses the fs9 navaid database rather than it's own like rxp/garmin, but if I must I must ... smile.gif

The situation I have in mind is getting halfway through a flight then getting diverted - if you can't edit your plan in the gps how on earth do you handle it ?

Thanks
Gary

Its actually Global Positioning System, and because you can get altitude information from GPS these days, its not specifically for the ground. This term is actually being replaced by GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), which will use the American GPS system and the European GLONASS system in conjunction smile.gif

If you are using FS9 & FSX, then if you go to the ATC window and request a change of destination then you will create a new .pln file, but still using you present position. However if you are not using the ATC with FS9 & FSX then you will just have to use the Direct to button and select each waypoint as it come up. This is not possible in FS8. Hope this helps.

Cannot go past the Garmin 530, available from Avsim. Search the Library for: GNS530. And don't forget to download the Manual from the Garmin Homepage.

Thankfully, the CAPSTONE Programme will make this a relic of the past. winkyy.gif

Actually I suspect I can. I've got several lovely payware gps units, and now these astonishingly good free ones, but I still don't have a plane that weighs less than 80 tons in which I can create a flight plan rather than just import one. I know I could get that down to ~13 tons with the ATR, but I was hoping to get it down even further - say to GA level ...

If I didn't already have the payware, and if I didn't want this annoying little feature, I'd be jumping up and down and panting and wagging my tail with joy for these are indeed excellent units which I'd look at over the RXP ones any time for the simple fact that they use the FS9 database.

But I'm afrraid it's back to the google mine ...

Cheers
Gary
