Adobe Air and Flight Sim Problem

Just found this topic over at AVSIM about a potential issue with a new technolgy from Adobe...

Apparently it can screw up your .AIR files in flight sim, Not good.

Acrobat Reader 9 has Adobe Air built in. So be carful.

I refuse to be too concerned about this -- I think that FS folk have over-reacted out of a misunderstanding about how Adobe 'change' air files. I've yet to see any proof that FS .air files are changed in any way -- it seems that only the file association -- i.e. the bit which tell Windows what to do when you click on a file with an .air extension -- is changed. Since .air files normally don't have an association defined, then only those who have already defined an association (for example, to open an .air file in Notepad) would have a problem, and it is simple to change it back.
I think that people just got concerned when their air files started showing up with a different icon -- which happens if you assign a file association. They just jumped to the conclusion that their air files had been 'hijacked', which isn't the case.

Well - I read that thread. What a load of useless drivel. I can't believe simmers (usually fairly geeky) can so utterly miss the point. *Nothing* is corrupted unless you happen to open the .air file and resave whilst having the default association set to Acrobat. Adobe .air files may even be text files anyway.

As Rob says - people are just seeing a changed icon and panicking. Editing via Notepad (or whatever) is still always possible.
