Virtual Pilots Association

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby FunkymonkeyNZ » Tue Jun 03, 2008 5:53 pm

Hey all!

Just sitting here in my Hotel room and just finished the Exam for joining the Virtual Pilots Association. looked very good with giving us simmers a reason to actually fly. you can checkit out here "Virtual Pilots Association". But anyway the reason why im typing this up is becuase im sitting here scratching my head, those of you who know of this web site or who are even members know that it has a Max of 500 members. fair enough but then i read this clause...
Quote "For these reasons, enrollment will be closed when membership reaches 500 pilots. At that point, a waiting list will be established and new members will only be accepted to fill vacancies.
When you've successfully passed the exam, you'll be put on the waiting list and will receive an email when a membership slot is available to you. Please note that this slot is only open for 48 hours. After that you'll be removed from the list and will have to pass the exam again
." unquote.
sooo um....does this mean that i'll have to keep passing this exam and try to be first inline to get in each time??? i may have read this wrong but seems LAME to me! i know Alister is one of the management team of this great community maybe he might have some info? well anyway guys thanks for hearing me rant and moan but check it out anyways....Looks very Inticing if your getting board with Flightsim B-)

Nope, what it means is that when the slot opens, you have 48 hours to accept it. If you don't accept it during that time, then you'll be removed from the list, and have to pass the exam and wait for another open slot.

VPA is a really cool group (I no longer actively fly there, but I've been a member for close to 3 years), with quite a few NZ guys as well. ;)

Well worth joining.

I was a member of VPA for some years too until about a year ago when we moved and didn't have my simming PC set up. It's a very supportive world-wide community of like minded simmers. The rules are many and they are strict on them, like aviation in real life, but it gives you the freedom to fly what you want, where you want, and to see results of the miles you fly.

Go for it :)

Just did the 'entrance exam'... had 4 or 5 questions on the same thing! What happens to lift in a level turn... <_<

And some of it was a little difficult being North American centric... but I ended up with 15/20... and I clicked don't know on one of them...

Welcome to the team guys! It's a great 'virtual airline' and yet, it's not a virtual airline. It's so much more. Any airline, any route, any plane, you can fly it. You can fly an F16 for fun, do circuits at TNCM, pilot a 737 on a delivery flight, or tour a new country in GA. You can fly whatever kind of 'career' you want..
Once you are in, you're in, so hang in there, the waiting list isn't that long. If I can help you with anything once you're a member, feel free to come back to me directly. I've flown over 2000 hours there, and been there since it was 1 month old. Matt and Matt and Alex would agree with me when I say it's quite a learning curve when you are new, but trust me, you'll learn heaps and improve and enjoy your flight simming so much more. Without VPA, I would have given up simming years ago.
Regards

I tried signing up yesterday, and I got the exam but I couldn't proceed to the next question, no matter what option I picked.

Will try again in whenever 48 hours is up from the time I did it.

Try refreshing your browser page :) I have heard of this happening, I'll get back to you with the cure once I've talked to the guy who had the problem.
Cheers

Edit: Once you've clicked your answer, and the same question stays, hit refresh on your browser. That should work :)

Ya i know where your coming from! this isn't my first time applying for this website, truth be told i failed the exam a few times and the other 3 times it kept freezing on me half way through the test giving me an Error saying i needed to resit the exam in 48 hours... <_< ...hang in there, hopefully Alister can sort you out ;)

Hi Guys,

I am also a member of VPA. like many before me, I failed the Entrance exam about 4 months before I actually became a member. i have now been a member since Dec 2006. I think that it is the best association to be with. I started with Qantas Virtual and became a Captain in Cat 1. I thought to myself, that I was just getting sick of flying the Dash 8 and Metro. Saw VPA in Computer Pilot Magazine and remembered that I took that exam a few months beforehand.

Let me just say, I would never go to another VA as they are all just too restrictive in there approach. I like the fact that I can fly regular Airline flights for Qantas, American, Air New Zealand Etc Etc Etc................ and then fly a little C404 between Perth and Rottnest Island with out braking the rules.

The other thing I like about VPA is If you have been asked to become part of the management, you do not have to resign your membership of other VA's and fly exclusively for them. In Qantas Virtual, that was one of the other reasons why I did not stay there long. I like Alister would like to welcome any one who would like to join our association.

Cheers.

I will also say that VPA is just about the best virtual "airline" (as it really isn't an airline) around. You can catch a glimpse of it by viewing the promotional video I made on the main page. (which reminds me, needs to be updated but waiting for some "major" site upgrades :D )

Hope to see some more Kiwis on there soon! :)

Is VPA affiliated with Flying Tiger Group? (I just joined that)

They appear to be

Now I belong to United Virtual and FTG.

Isn't it evident?? Boeing are my favourite aircraft.

P.S. that's is my real birthday but I wish to keep my real age secret to keep you all pondering.

No Kelburn, they aren't actually affiliated at all :) The founding members were ex-ftg (like myself) :)

FTG is not as "free". They have a limited number of airlines you can fly for. VPA is ANY airline, GA, corporate, military, etc.

I used to use it, before becomeing inactive, I would like to again but mine has proabably gone. It is the best one I'v ever used, theres so much more you can do there, theres nothing else really like it.

Thanks
