Sim from the beginning

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Found a neat summary of home flight simulation , and it shows just how far it has come. I cannot say that I would like to try to load FSX from cassette tapes!!!

http://www.acecombatsix.com/flight_Simulations/index.html

have a look at the pictures and see just how much it has progressed. 1982 Microsoft releases FS1 (not to be confused with FSX!)

If that is not enough, then have a look at the original Sinclair ZX81 (and I am old enough to remember using them!!) flight sim:

Now where is my cassette player to load the sim.......

Smooth (simulated) landings.

Nice find, very cool. The above pic is the very first version of the Sim that I got to play on an original IBM XT PC back in the 80's. I was really excited to be able to do a instrumentation flight and VOR landing, in fact it was almost easier to fly the radials and watch the dials than look at the crappy rendering of the runway

I think I came in slightly after that............I remember asking my "guru" brother in law for advice before buying my first computer.

He told me that 4 megabyte was huge and that it would last me for a lifetime....!
