A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby SENECA08 » Tue Mar 25, 2008 12:34 pm

My name is Jim. Have been flying within Flight Simulator for 3 years now. I fly mainly GA aircraft such as the cessna 150 up to the cessna caravan.

As a day job I also fly a Cessna 182 on scenic flight work in Australia. I moved to australia because of more job options.

In the next month or so i will be moving to melborne to continue with my instructing.

Hello all,

I reside in central USA, although love to fly around New Zealand. Sometime ago I discovered Wellington Intl. LOL I love to land different aircraft there as a test of myself and the aircraft. Some of the aircraft I have managed to land at Wellington include the AVRO Vulcan B2, DH106 Comet, B-26, B-25. B-36, CF-CNA Lancaster, B733 (BOAC), and countless others. I have flown back and forth between New Zealand and Australia so often that I feel I could fly a regular route in real life. Why? I dunno, I fell in love with New Zealand. I love to fly over various parts in a T Bird II (an altralight) or soar in a Schweizr. I guess that's why I joined this group. I may live in the middle of a corn field, but my soul soars over your great country.

Hello All,

My name is Niels, I grew up in Christchurch, but am now living in the Netherlands.

I'm a long time fan of flight simulator, but am only recently learning how to fly with any degree of grace.

I love what all the free and payware developers have done in creating NZ scenery, it's great to be able to fly over a landscape and recognize everything. My home base for flights in NZ is NZCH, flying the default 172 for scenic flights, and the Wilco/Feelgood Cessna Citation X for long distance flights. I use the Geographix 20m mesh with the red baron topo & landclass, and have just bought Robin Cook's awesome set of NZ sceneries for FS9. I also use most of the NZScenery group's photo-real sceneries for the South Island. I had fun last night testing this setup with a short flight from NZCH to NZKI (Kaikoura). Landing was fun! I was searching for the airstrip when I realized that it was the longish field on my left! Nice work Robin! I would have taken screenshots but the wife came home from band practise and wanted attention ;)

David Gunson on Soviet ATC: "They have a super system there. When you want to fly from say Moscow to Leningrad, you are give three things: A height, a route and a speed. If you deviate from any of these three things you are joined by two MIG's on each wing and you land at the nearest available airfield. The passengers continue by coach, and the crew are never seen again. ... It's a super system, they don't get repetitive faults...

Hi all!

I've just moved to Wellington from Laois, Ireland, down here for the working holiday visa. I'm a longtime FS user at home, very fond of the PMDG 737 and Captainsim 757s and have been involed in FS within Ireland for a long time, we've got a great VATSIM VACC at http://www.vateir.com/pilots.php and plenty of nights with controllers at Dublin, Cork and Shannon if anyone here ever feels like a virtual flight around Ireland (time difference meaning you'd be up early or late but yknow!)

I've done a few flights in FSX between Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch but obviosuly the scenery isnt great, any recommendations on some nice stuff for NZ? Also where to get repaints for Air NZ or Pacific blue would be cool. Hopefully I'll be getting some PPL lessons once I sort out a job as they seem a lot cheaper down here then at home and the chances of good flying weather seem better.

Anyway thats all just wanted to say Hello!

There's Christchurch city and airport scenery for free here http://www.nzscenery.com/
The only Wellington and Auckland scenery I know of that would work in FSX is the 2 realNZ sceneries, which are very well worth it.

For the repaints, http://www.flightsim.co.nz/ has all the ones you're looking for.

I hope you enjoy your stay here in Godzone, and here at NZFF!

Well at least from Ireland you won't feel the cold this winter
What part of Wellington are you staying in currently?

True :) Though I froze my ass off at night in a campervan throughout the south island!

We're just staying in hostels at the moment, this weekend a nice one out in Plimmerton and one on the Terrace in Welly. Love the place so far!

Thanks for the scenery and welcome Peppermint! Will give it a go once i get a decent broadband connection or grab a CD :)

Hey Guys

I have been here for a few months short of a year but haven't really introduced myself.
I live in Rotorua and i am 14 years old. I am very intersted in aviation and flight simming and i am currently learning to fly.
I quite like flight simming and have been Virtual Air NZ for over a year i think. I have built up just over 105 hours whith them.
On Flight Simulator i enjoy flying the Q300, ATR, 737 and other small to medium airliners.
I am learning to fly over at Tauranga with Euroflight in a Cessna 150. Previously i was in Rotorua with Air Discovery flying a Cessna 172.
I have logged about 6.5 hours but have flown many other unloggable flights. I attend Young Eagles at Tauranga once a month and we go flying most times.
I am really enjoying my time at NZFF and hope to be here for many years to come. Thanks to Trolly and his team for creating such a great website for all of us to use.
I fly round the country on Air New Zealand reguarly and am often seen at Rotorua Airport. I have many friends who are pilots or into aviation.

Cheers
Daniel

Hi all

Came arcoss you great site through link From www.flightsimulationforums.com.
I was born in whangarei, then moved to Wellinton specficaly lower hutt, then onto perth Austrlia.
I enjoy flying anything bigger than an 727 as it crates challenges landing and having to work out the correct fuel amount etc...
I am currently in need for some addons for the NZ scenery as the default stuff is getting worn out.
Will try to post any flight i manage to squeez in here as well as screenies when I can. (http://www.flightsimulationforums.com/v ... m.php?f=40 look here under my username for my shots.)

Cheers

Hello everyone

I'm James, originally from Cardiff but have lived in Auckland for 3 years. I'm learning to fly the fx 737-800.

This is an awesome forum full of great information.

I tried Flight Experience a few weeks ago and would have made a great landing at Kai Tak if I had not run out of runway!

Cheers

James

Hello all.

My name is Jim and I'm a retired Policeman. I became involved with flight simming when my family got it for me after I suffered a bad injury playing rugby, I was flown to the Burwood Spinal clinic, and, unfortunately things took a downward turn a little time later. I am now severely disabled, requiring a wheelchair and some awful medicine.

It is only now that I thank those who helped me get started with flight simming in a serious way. I lost a good deal of my memory because of the injury and medicine and I really lost interest in a lot of things. Then appeared", flight simming"", I had just played at it really, but again my family and friends came to my aid and started to get me really involved. It's been a slow process believe me but I'm now loving it. There is so much I need to know about, not only the addons but the computer too. That's about all really, Oh yes I managed to play rugby and cricket for my province for a number of years, I made and did a small tour with the Junior All Blacks ( which involved Sid Going and Grizz Wylie remember them you oldies out there).

There are a few things I've got lined up eg Orbx (FTX), get all NZ scenery & airports, and I have got but I'm about ready to give up My Traffic X. I have asked just all the forums I can but a shining light still has not appeared.

So that's it folks, yes a interesting life but I do want to thank those who have helped me through those very dark times and if anyone asks me about Flight Simming I'll be answering them ÃÂ￾es' in a very big way.

Regards to you all,
Jim.

Hi Jim

I cant answer your questions in regrds to Traffic X as I dont have it and I dont use FSX but I will get back later this week in regards to the other two questions you had. .. and welcome to NZFF :)

Hi everyone
I'm Tim from Hamilton. I have been flying flight simulators for about 6 years (I think). I currently use FSX and fly mostly in New Zealand. I am interested in anything that flies and hope to be a pilot as a career. I found these forums when I saw two people wearing NZFF shirts at the Ohakea open day. So I suppose the advertising does work!
