I guess everyone must have given up. There have been three machines to wear the HOT rego. The first was a D model which Timmo correctly pointed out is now with Dick Deaker as IDD (Im Dick Deaker you see. Who said pilots are modest?) The second machine was an E model which is now ZK-INM and the third and current one is another D model which was initially registered as ZK-HNR before becoming ZK-ITW with Alpine Helicopters who then changed the rego to ZK-HOT

A piper cubs luggage limit is 50 pounds but is more like 500 pounds. i also read that some packed their piper cub with 2500 pound of lead and was able to takeoff and land merril field in alaska.

2500 pounds is my guess

MTOW = 1220 lbs
Empty = 765 lbs
Skinny Pilot = 55 lbs
Teaspoon of fuel = priceless...

Payload = 400 lbs?

This is a bit hard to prove as it is only one mans story but according to Mike Bennett the highest payload recorded in a PA18 is 440kg of Venison. For those who dont have a nav computer, this roughly equates to 980lbs. This is just payload, there was a pilot, pack and rifle in there somewhere aswell. Not too sure about the aircraft, some guys used to put lead weight in the tail to stop it nosing over on rough strips under breaking. Im not sure if this aircraft had that mod.

That was pretty terrible wasn't it :lol:

Ok, what type of aircraft did Vincent Aviation buy from Tonga, but once it arrived in Wellington was found to be so badly corroded it never flew again?

Yep it was actually a Riley Heron (Re-engined), but close enough.
