These pictures are of an RNZAF Airtrainer aircraft that was in a line astern formation landing at the Wanaka Airshow over Easter 2008.

This guy was apparently number 3 of 4 when he got caught in wake turbulence from the two aircraft ahead of him.
I’d say he had an extremely lucky escape.

Far out- where did you get those pics from Tom?

That must have been on the Friday or Sunday, looks to bright and sunny to have been the Saturday we were there!

Nahhhh, luck had nothing to do with it. They're RNZAF remember? :P It's shocking and impressive at the same time, just goes to show the amount of danger that can come out of something as simple as moving air.

I don't think that's Wanaka? I don't remember all that forest at the end of the runway. Given the amount of sunlight, even if it was Wanaka, then it'd have to be the Sunday, so no way we could have seen it Tom :)

I was emailed them by one of dad's mates who was there on the Sunday, although I don't know if he took the shots. It is definitely Wanaka.

These shots were waiting for me when I got home from Wanaka. I know who took them and they are real.

Thought so. Pretty impressive really, he was a lucky bugger.

I can reomve the pics if your friend isn't ok with them being on here. Just thought they were pretty amazing.

That is not wanaka airport and i saw him go around, he went around because he was too close to Checker #2!
#3 was also about 100 feet off the runway steady flight
Take a close look

I doubt it matters that they are here and am surprised how long they took to get on the net.
With edited photos anything is possible. I spoke to the pilots following afterwards and they saw the whole thing so thats the reason why I thought the photos must be real when they arrived and totally understand why people would think they might not be real as its something you dont see often..
I was looking down the other end at the time and am kind of happy that I was.
Top job by the photographer, but well done Peter a superb piece of flying.

I think it is Wanaka, just taken with a massive telephoto lense. Makes the background seem closer.
