South Island scenery problems

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby ilovetofly » Mon Mar 24, 2008 4:28 pm

A couple of years ago I had the Wanaka2 photo real scenery by Robin Corn, I believe, installed and it worked without problems. Since then I built a new computer and reinstalled FS9. The other day I decided to install it again but am having problems. A portion of scenery lacks texture detail. Not the entire area is affected, only a fairly large section around the airport. I'vr tried a few things to no avail.

Also I installed the Invergill photo scenery as well as the airport. Now there are trees all over the tarmack as well as on the runways.

I would like to include some screenshots but I'm not sure how to do this. Would someone please explain the process to include screenshots.

Thanks,
Jim D.

I saw the screenshots over at the Avsim forum, Jim. That's certainly weird, it looks like there is a big chunk of missing textures. If might be worthwhile downloading it again and reinstalling.

Thanks for the info Ian. The version I installed is the one by NZScenery. I'll try to locate the other one and give it a try.

I'll give that a try. I did reinstall, but that was from the the already downloaded file. I'll download again and see if that works.

OK, I've fixed the texture problem occurring in Wanaka, well almost, and it did required downloading the file from AVSIM again and reinstalling. Now I have another slight problem as a portion of the south end of the runway is cutoff by the scenery texture.

Ian, thanks for the Invergargill scenery recommendation. Looks much better. As of yet no problems, but haven't done a flight around there yet.

Alex, thanks for the link on pasting photos or screenies here.

So, any help on the missing portion of the runway? This wasn't the case before.

So you're saying that huge Invercargill (1 hundred and some megs) or worse than the 23 meg version? Does one cover a bigger area than the other?

I haven't flown there yet but there are no trees on the taxiways and the grass landing strips are not in the river.
Maybe your question should be directed to Ian as he made the recommendation.

Jim D.

P.S. Still need help on the Wanaka problem.

Question wasn't directed at anyone impeticular, um about your problem, maybe you need to flatten the airport? I don't know how to do that, but did the airport come with some instructions in the read me about flattening it?

Here's a bit from a previous thread:

Things to watch for at Wanaka are:
The installation needs to go to the default FS2004 folder -- anything else will cause problems. You can shift the RealNZwanaka folder anywhere you like after the installation, but if you install it elsewhere the flattens just won't work properly.
The flattens used only really work with the Terrain_Max_Vertex setting of 21. (I think you can get away with 20.) Even though you normally set this to match the mesh resolution, the flattens are rendered pretty much the same as mesh, and require a higher TMV setting.

Well I have my FS9 on the D: drive. Are you saying that I must first put it in the C: drive first? I'm unsure how that would work, but I'll give it a try.

Now for Invercargill: On approach the runway completely dissappeared.

No, I just mean that if your simulator is installed in D:\FS2004, then you MUST choose D:\FS2004 as the installation path, you can't choose D:\FS2004\Addon Scenery for instance.

OK I tried it and there was no change. There is no auto installer, so I just copied the downloaded file, (not the zip one but the contents) and placed that in the FS9 Directory, then activated it and it is still missing a section of the runway. I deleted the previous scenery before doing this so there would be no holdover.

Still can't figure it out.

Sorry, my fault, I confused the old Godzone Wanaka with 'Real New Zealand' Wanaka. I'll take a look at the download from Avsim and see if I can figure out a solution.

Just a quick reminder regarding the Invergargill scenery I installed; as I mentioned in my previous post the runway disappeared as I was approaching for a landing. Any ideas on what is causing this and how to fix it?

Thanks,
Jim

Please ignore this request. Silly me!!! I forgot to activate the scenery in the sim. All is OK now. But still hoping for a fix @ Wanaka.

Forgive me if I'm late to this party.

I use Christian Stock's 20m mesh/scenery for NZ. Problem is, the airfield at Luggate (Wanaka) seems to be displaced westwards, to the other side of the road (i.e. to about the location of the carpark below WOW's campervan hill-top vantage-point). The approach from Luggate is now obscured by a hill.

Is there a fix for this?

Thanks
