With all the interest in home pits at the moment I thought you guys may be interested in this beast.

Check out this link Bell 206 This guy has done an awesome job.

I might have to convince the missus we need a bigger house. Problem being she'll probably suggest me moving out would give her more room anyway.

Instead of a fuselage from a real one ive always thought it mite be cheaper and be better off building one out of fiberglass ,just molding chicken wire and covering it better still and even more cheaper one out of paper mash , and yes and i mean a full scale paper mash fuselage ,would be pretty strong with wire and some wood framing

Yes very nice - would be great to pick up the fron end of a helo like that. I've got the space in my 9m x 9m garage too !!!

I am at the very early stages of building my helicopter sim. I am going to build a MD500 which will be based on the floor plan of a hughes 300. I will build a dual control simulator and the little 300 is set up already for dual control


I will fabricate the the cockpit to resemble a MD500 around the hughes 300. I predict the project will take twelve plus months to complete .

Looks like a great project!
Always liked the 500, but more the 500E. Probably because my friends dad has one, sold it now. He offered me a flight in it, but I guess I waited to late. Oh well, hopefully he's getting another heli!

Me too, I have always loved the MD 500 series helicopters. I am considering using an lcd monitor to display the gauges on, and placing a face plate over the top.
This setup will more closely resemble the instrument panel setup of the 500E so I will shape the front nose and bottom of the cockpit to look like a 500E

Sounds good Yeah the pointed nose front makes it look better/faster, especially if it's painted red

You could try contacting Wanganui Aero Works. One of their guys did a hard landing up Waiouru a couple of months back.

I was supposed to go in the MD520N last month but they had to get a loan machine over from Hawkes Bay Helicopters.

Last I heard it was still undecided whether it would be repaired or not. This of course could have now changed.

A lot of helo bits will be very hard to get hold of, for two reasons.
Firstly because they are so expensive, most operators will want to salvage as many useable parts as possible.
Secondly, to avoid the risk of them being re-sold as bogus parts, life expired or damaged parts are often destroyed, by cutting up etc. This may be less prevalent with commercial stuff versus military, but I'm sure the risk is still there.
The work around, if you can get onto parts, is to have them rendered un-usable for real applications, by drilling holes, grinding nicks in them etc, in such a way that they are not rendered un-usable for the home sim builder.
