Interesting poll at ORBX

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby VHJLC » Sat Feb 02, 2008 5:40 pm

Gidday fellas,
Long time reader 1st time poster here,

I just saw something over in the Orbx (the payware company doing FTX founded by John "KOORBY" Venema of VOZ) an interesting poll on which u get to vote an have your say in what country FTX should do next!!
Ive gotta soft spot for NZ as my well sorta "adopted" family is from there (Gisborne actually)
So you guys won my vote quick smart!!
And i reckon if you fellas rally together an push up those NZ votes we'd have amazing scenery for both Oz an NZ!!
Here's a link to Orbx http://orbxsystems.com/ and here's a direct link to the topic in the forum http://orbxsystems.com/forums/index.php?topic=851.0

Anywho

Kia ora??
or
peace out
Josh

Nah. Seems valid to me. Although possibly some work double-up given the team that is gearing up to do a lot of work on NZ Scenery...

I believe someone was going to make an announcement regarding that project, although that doesn't seem to have materialised.

All spam is valid in one way or another. That's it's point - to advertise a real product. It's only the sender who is ingenuine. They try and hide to avoid being hit by a backlash and potentially prosecuted.

1 post by this sender... This is spam.

In that case there are many spam posts in this forum. The difference between informing the people here about goings-on elsewhere, and unwanted clutter is perhaps a fine line...

Ooops, I stand corrected!

Sorry! (though surely you have to admit, 1 post... it had elements of spam to it, except it was written in clearly understandable english).

I'll admit, it would be awfully unique for a non-nz developer to model something for NZ. I'd be surprised if they did NZ for that reason.

Geez guys some of you really do need to grow up. Calling that writer as writing spam is rubbish as I said, and I'm old enough to be your father, 'grow up'

As the forum member who raised the question (note : it was a question) as to whether or not this matter was spam, I would like to add the following....

Flight Sim is one of many of my hobbies and interests. Apart from this particular forum, I am a member of at least 15 others. In a number of them, spam, or apparent spam is not tolerated. Any post, by a "first time member" suggesting you check out a product is suspect, for obvious reasons. There are hundreds of outfits out there selling payware who would love to advertise here but can't do so legitimately - many of them use employees or contacts to slip in the message. Most of them adopt the "matey - friendly" style we see here.

Again I merely asked the question.

Alex suggested there have been many spam posts here - I haven't seen them. There are established members here who supply payware, however they have paid their dues on site with advice, help and comment. Most of us have their products and they are part of our daily simming. As they are "straight-up" this cannot be taken as spam in this context, if they are what Alex refers to. Other than that I would like an example of what he is talking about as I have found this to be a well regulated and clean forum in respect of irregularities.

ZLZBMH remarkks that he is old enough to be our respective fathers. I take that to be an attempt at humour, however I can assure him that unless he is well into his 80's, he certainly isn't in my case. If he is that old I suggest he should declare it and we could all give him an award and a round of applause.

I suppose though that by identifying it as spam (which is questionable I suppose) we are really pandering to the vendor. There were three days in which there were no posts in response to this, and questioning it sort of kicked the conversation off (and corres. interest). In that way I suppose it's sort of ironic, but I'm not really fussed about it. ;)

Well this quickly got out of control...

Bazza if this was SPAM,
Wouldn't I be trying to pushing people to buy a product (that is complete) an advertising it everywhere??

I posted some links to give people a chance to VOTE an push up the numbers in a poll so the company would consider doing NZ 1st above any other country...
