Fog

When there is fog (or low visibility below a certain point) FS9 doesn't draw this up very well when you are looking down at it from above. E.g. you can see a small sheet of cloud but it is see-through allowing you to look at all the details below.

For example, I was at VHHH and I took off. The weather was normal, around 5 mile visibility (due to smog/fog) anyway so it looks like fog/smog where I was (in it) until I climbed above it (1000ft) at which point there is just a light white sheet showing the top of the clouds but unfortunately it is see-through. Thus I can see Hong Kong Chep Lap Kok Airport but no one there can see me. Is there any way to solve this?

your graphic card would be the the fix , having a 8800 series is best .

FSX seems to render fog much better than FS9 too.....So its a mixture of software and hardware limitations.

No. FS9 is stuck with that issue.
Would be nice to see some screenshots from FSX with the less transparent fog, though - I haven't managed to see it yet.

This was taken in FS9 just above CHC. Thick fog at 3200FT right down to minimums :thumbup:

I think this has been said before (possibly not in these forums). It's been said that this also happens in real life with low-lying cloud/mist. When looking down from above you might be only looking through 60-70m of cloud until the ground, so it's not too hard to see the ground. When you are at ground level (or close to it) you could be trying to look through a lot more cloud, so it's harder to see....
