New to NZFF

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby redkiwi » Mon Jan 14, 2008 6:55 pm

Hi everybody,

My name is Gareth Deacon. I am by no means new to flight simulator, but have been out of the loop for the last couple of years. I used to be very active in the community and started the vRNZAF back in the days of FS2002. However with my time being taken up by other hobbies and sports my flight simming fell behind and I eventually gave it up, party due to my computer not being too flash and partly because I needed to focus on other things.

I have recently got a new computer and it plays FSX quite nicely in Vista, however after trialing a couple of games between XP and Vista I think I might take FSX across as well and see if I get the same performance games as the other titles received.

Some of you may know of me, my website is www.vrnzaf.orcon.net.nz, however orcon has changed their free host plans and the website will soon be adorned with advertising :( I am happy to be back into flightsim, albeit in a some what more serious sense than I used to be. If anyone would like to enter into discussions about getting the vRNZAF back up and running using FSX as a platform then get in touch.

I look forward to getting know you all and sharing the skies on the weekends.

Cheers Ian, it's looking good so far. I'm holding out for some Whenuapai scenery as it is my local airport... for now i'm flying twins (mostly the Baron) around random air strips trying to get some structured flying and nav going. I'm due to start PPL/CPL training soon so hopefully that will add to my flightsim experience and actually allow me to reap some benefits from what was previously just a game!

At the moment it looks like i'll be doing it at North Shore Aero Club in the Robin, I may end up doing it at Whenuapai in the Tomahawk though. For now i'm just getting a few hours up. My goal is to get into the REX Pilot Cadet Scheme so I have some of the fee's paid and a fulltime domestic flying job when i'm done at the end of my CPL.

I was up that way recently, had a look through the North shore aero club. Looked thoroughly awesome, those Robins look cool as. In fact all their aircraft looked very tidy. I also spied a US-registered, very shiny Saratoga parked in front of the club.

On the same trip I met one of the Whenuapai instructors, good fella, he might be gone to bigger & better things by now though.

Good luck wherever you go :)
