While waiting for clearance , let me introduce my good friend John , he will be the jump seat on this wide ride . ,
phssss ... The Clearance .. I was meaning any passengers , MAKE SURE NO ONE IS IN THE BACK! .... few minutes before takeoff our instructor Steve settles in , I request takeoff on Rwy16 out of Welly , Ok.... I'm going to do this buy the book until we reach 3500 ft , after that it was a free for all , we backtracked heading to Kapiti with my idea to buzz Waikanae and Paraparaumu , wide sweep getting the feel , 340 knots indicated now flying this more like my pc at home , I think now Steve has guess is no normal point to point flight , with constant changes , Taking over as pilot to his (this is how to do it )high speed pass over Wellington airport , heading back up the runway 34 , John in the back was VERY impressed with trims fluttering like real and constant adjust to nav/hight/com settings .

Now with the almost correct heading to Christchurch ... another divert , this time through the Valleys of Marlborough , 280 kts , 2300-2800 ft , one of Johns stomping grounds with his fishing , pointing out features , heading in past Picton , and airfield to be again pointed out that were heading direct to Woodbourne , nope , after a few changes myself and large right turn climb out off the valley we were directly heading to the SPY station , With all Steve had taught me , now i teach , are the knowledge , many hundred hours skimming (napp of earth)while flightsiming .

Heading home , the flight was more climb here , you want this ALT , ill go this way and back and forth , constant adjust and pointing features that could be added . At the beginning i thought be nice to get a CD/DVD , plus purchasing little extras , this broke down , lucky! quik check soon at home, saved lotta heartache for others a as i had early morning flight , wanted to review found prob with there recording camera , lucky only one group had been through .

Great Ian!! I'm glad you had a good time and got to do some hair raising flying I'm glad you enjoyed it. Consider it a thank you gift for all you've done (and still do) for flight sim here in NZ. You are as such very welcome. Steve is a nice guy, met him last week or so, and sounds like a good instructor. Only wish it was me still instructing for your session, sounded like fun!

Along for the ride , My brother Richard , the critical Hang Glider pilot and his daughter Olivia , hoping to to get her become an airline pilot ! but no she wants to be a VET Nnnnoooo!

Typical me , out at the airport agian , My flight on the tarmac , or thats what I thought

On board , strange , no seats ? , i met two women, stewardess ? , both workin on small aviation components ! ? Nah asking one , i was directed to flight deck . I found how lucky I was , just climbing thru FL24 as we left NZCH , head 211 .
................................................
The crew were settling in for avionic test flight , little bumpy , but at Alt a nice cruz , all three hard at work testing , even,n tapping lights and switch,s checking all work properly
................................................
with Captain Alister Curnow as technical officer on this flight , with clipboard in hand constantly marking faults and pointing out fix,s
................................................
having of the company,s Captain,s in charge , made you feel very safe , Captain Brent Smith running the numbers watching incoming cloud/weather , destination Queenstown

and as first officer , Captain Gavin Wood , all going through entire system checks and testing

SAFETY Reasons this panel was left open , with many of the components being checked in the rear cabin , with all watching the autothrottle doing there job , trims rolling , one point trim long way out , check the buzzers , alt horns , pax seatbelt signs , Next thing the cockpit bursts open , my first fear , cockpit pressuration , Chief Engineer Sean Galbraith assured all , the workshop pressurized

Captain Smith , little worried they to high , but looking for an approach on rwy05 , only to be a low level pass anyway , with mention of Wanaka decided to do a full stop there .

with a QANTAS 73 on the runway it was time to head to our changed stop , after little while , back up and out , Captain Woods going through the numbers , request airport info , of course no ILS , Captain Curnow is working to get airport data to the flight crew , pre-check and check again , one very short runway at 1120 above S/L

Not an issue at all .... pssss look at the crowd,s who turned up for the flight , i did not tell anybody

haha was great to have you in the cockpit Ian for one of our numerous test flights. This sim is to call the Gold Coast of Australia home, so we need to make sure everything works perfectly before we put it on the ship. It certainly makes for a fun work day when you get to fly around in a simulator
By the end of the afternoon we'd fixed half of the the things we found wrong, and I even had time to start building the MCP for the next sim

Pressurised workshop...one of those little gems to be packed away and savoured on a rainy day.

Good post, dunno why I haven't cruised off down to Takapuna yet, having too much fun on the home sim I s'pose.

Everytime I hear about Flight Experience I think what a great bunch of lads who had their dreams come true. They were always helpful before they started Flight Experience, and use to hold club nights once a month, and a Christmas do as well.

I moved to Aussie just before they finished their first 737 sim, and was lucky enough to go see them when I returned to NZ last year, and seeing the pride all the workers (not just the managers) have in what they are doing must make it one of the happiest places to work.

They deserve all the success they have had, and plenty more, their passion in Flight sim was/is still an amazing thing.

Well I didn't have any -800 models installed so I did it with a -300. Easy

Captain Fred Ladd (of TAT & Mount Cook) famously flew under the Harbour Bridge in a Grumman Widgeon - he got into big trouble for that stunt. Theres photo somewhere of it.
