Aurora Australis

I'm sure everyone knows that the Aurora Borealis (aka the Northern Lights) in included in fs2004, visable at the very top of the Northern Hemisphere in Winter, but are the Aurora Australis (aka the Southern Lights) visable around the southern part of New Zealand in fs2004? (Or FSX?)

No, the Southern Lights are not included. However, as the Aurora is a simple .fx file, it would be relatively easy to create an event where they do display.

EDIT: Thanks for the Link, it links to further data that would assist in creating such an event.

FURTHER EDIT: Seems that the Southern Borealis IS modelled in FS2004 (well, at least someone over at AvSim has reported seeing it). However, it is an exceedingly random (and rare) event by all accounts (at least the Southern version).

What I thought would be a simple event proves rather difficult to trigger. Bugga!

I've just started wondering about this again, after seeing the Northern Lights today in a flight over Finland.




Could you perhaps link me to the reference you have on Avsim? I'd like to message the guy and ask him where and when if possible?

Also, does anyone know the name of the effect BGL (If it is in a BGL), so then I could just knock it up in the sky with EZ-Scenery perhaps?

Just re-discovered this thread.

Unfortunately, I can no longer find that particular AvSim discussion.

There are 3 fx files representing the Aurora (fx_Aurora1 (small), fx_Aurora2 (medium), and fx_Aurora3 (large)). I attempted placing an "event" over South Westland some time ago, but for some reason or other I couldn't get it to display.
