Next I present, the Boeing B-47 Stratojet- pictured here on a early morning sortie over Greenland from Kangerlussuaq.

This cold war pioneer includes an impressive RATO system varient, which is modelled in fs2004:

The Boeing B-47 was the first swept-wing multi-engine bomber in service with the USAF. It was truly a quantum leap in aviation history, and is the forerunner of every jet aircraft in service today. As early as 1943, Boeing engineers had envisaged a jet bomber, but were unable to overcome issues with the straight wings of the day.

However, Boeing aero-engineer George Schairer was in Germany and came across some secret wind-tunnel data on swept-wing jet airplanes. He sent the information back to the United States, where engineers then used the Boeing High-Speed Wind Tunnel to develop the XB-47, which featured swept-back wings.

The B-47 broke a number of records and proved to be a great strategic deterrent during the Cold War era. The B-47E is an advanced version of the original XB-47, with much more powerful J-47 engines. A grand total of 2,032 of these aircraft were built, with the last one rolling out in 1956.

Model from Alphasim, $40 NZ

Also great Mig -29/Corsair series fauville - what FS model is that Mig?

A-7 Corsair is the DSB/IRIS freeware model, can be found on simviation and flightsim and IRIS website

Mig-29 is a fs9 freeware model by Eduardo Fadul (MIG29FUL.ZIP) on flightsim and simviation (there is a fix also)

First the FAA Falklands wonder.... cool.gif

And I'm surprised this one hadn't come up yet

Approaching 55,000 feet, (and flame out biggrin.gif )

And back to base to rest with something slightly more tame (and some NZ Flavour)

Great MiG Ian, could never figure out why he flew so straight and level for the inverted photo from 2 feet away...

Fauville, you lead into the next subject very nicely...but first things first:
After the French sniffed at the FIAT, they made the Etendard, which developed into the Super Etendard.
This is what you see, aboard the FS Clemenceau, she who can't be decommissioned because Greenpeace think French asbestos does not belong in India.
But that's another tale - out from the hanger, up the elevator, on the Cat, Launch!

Of course, Argentina had some, each with a single Exocet under a wing.
They had an issue with the Malvinas..and the British had one with the Faulklands.
The Argies used the missile to devastating effect on HMS Sheffield, now resting at the bottom of the sea.

Dassault genes are clear in the cockpit area, although is that a trace of Hunter in the wing planform?
Great view over the coaming on approach...Sacre Bleu Mon Ami! Appeler la balle!
...steady...Trap the 3-wire!
Home safe.

All shots in FS9.
This and many other Dassault fighters are available here.

The 'Clemenceau', 'Foch' .. they do look much better than a 'Nimitz' class but we cannot be fuss,y .. and heck the extra landing space helps smile.gif
The Falklands War ... HMS Hermes , India .. and ETENDARD clapping.gif

Huh? The Hermes at the bottom of the sea? Last time I heard it was with the Indian Navy. Nice shots though Charl - what carrier model is that? Is it an American one pretending to be French? Also thanks for the link to the FS Mirage website - didn't know about that one.

Sheffield...Sheffield...I'd been reading about the tragic circumstances leading to the sinking of this ship - basically utter incompetence on the part of the Brits, in the fog of war, and had Hermes on the brain.
I also had the Argies claiming the Maldives - these are in the northern Indian Ocean.
Malvinas.
Both corrected now, must be the fog of Saturday afternoon Spring in Auckland.

Carrier is a flattop I downloaded yonks ago - Wingman saw through this immediately...who's to say it's not just the foreshortened perspective?
The Frogs even used an American steam catapult...

Haha Maldives didn't see that - I would rather have the tropics of the Maldives than the freezing desolate Malvinas!

Thats right the Argies did think they sunk the Hermes (or was it the Invincible?).

I think the Indians are getting rid of the Hermes shortly or already have so it is probably about to be scrap.

Wow, that Etendard sure is a looker! Those Frenchies really are pretty good when it comes to designing fighters.

Like Paul, I'd like a link to that carrier if possible. I've been looking for a freeware one with a working cable system so I can actually use the FS tailhook key function for what it is supposed to be assigned for, for once.

As I said, I've had it lurking on the HDD for a long time - it appears to be by Alejandro Villa, car2004a.zip at flightsim.
There are various gauges which you add on to either the carrier, or the aircraft, to get cat/trap effects.
Search on "Carrier cable" or somesuch.
I have a payware one (I think from Iris?)

Interesting ... that plane was the turning point for Boeing: after the B-47 they had the inside track against every other aircraft company that wanted to get into the jetliner business. They used a lot of the data to build the KC-135 tanker, which became the Boeing 707. Best of all, the development costs had been paid for by the Air Force. Meanwhile Douglas had to bet the farm to get the DC-8 built in time. It was a better plane, but too late- Douglas never did catch up.

Just to cross these unloved aircraft off the list:

F 101 Voodoo. The plane Canada bought after cancelling the Avro Arrow

He flew with the National Guard in Texas during the Vietnam period. The official records that would show how often he flew and what his skills were have somehow gone missing, but he let his pilots license lapse as soon as his military service was over, and has never flown since.

Two more Century series aircraft:
The F-105 Thunderchief. The largest single seat, single engined fighter ever built. Nearly half of all "Thud"Â￾s built were shot down over Vietnam.

F-106 Delta Dart. Basically a reworked F-102 Delta Dagger with better engine and tweaked airframe
