Hello fellow simmers
I found myself in Bellevue, Seattle, at the same time the Avsim 2007 conference is on, which is this weekend, 10th and 11th of November. I spent an hour or so walking between the different exhibitors, showing their software and hardware products. it was great to see the common denominator between all people in the room, besides a passion for flight simulators which is a great big smile, which takes days to get of one's face. I am very tempted to go for another walk-around tomorrow.
Several motion platforms were on display. The freamflyer, which is a seat built into a frame within a frame (like a gyro), as well as couple small flat motion platforms you can position a standard dining chair on. brilliant. The item that captured my attention was the iWear VR290 from http://www.flyvuzix.com . Just put it on, and you have a 62" screen 3 metres in front of you, including 3 degree of freedom head motion tracking. incredible. Apparently, it is currently available for a conference price of US$299.00 until the end of November. - very, very tempting, although I am already in danger of sleeping outside the house for a month when I get back home after spending too much money while overseas. I did pick up couple of titles from Aerosoft and Justflight to at least save on shipping costs. I was ready to spend even more money of dual engine throttle but the PFC one on show was too expensive, and the Saitek people didn't bring any stock to sell. bummer.
Anyway, just to clarify, I have no affiliation with AVSIM or any of the exhibitors, I am just a lone kiwi simmer, that from my perspective, was (or still is really) at the right time and at the right place.
