There is another sum to make or break ' payware' , The very different types u cannot get .. Your life 's wish to look at aircraft type add your own knowledge , paint . It depends on your view off type , its history and reason to buy . So many Airbus-Boeing -Beech Douglas - MD - DH products .. I have many , .. lotts that have nothing to do with New Zealand Aviation , the weird and wicked .
Freebie's EQUAL ! so many thumbup1.gif plane.gif

I guess the reason for that Ian is that if they're going to spend weeks making a good quality payware plane, they want lots of people to buy it. More people would want to buy a 747/777 than, say, a fletcher, just because the real aircraft itself is more well known. Generally I would go payware for more popular models (most are included in the Overland pack I bought) and freeware for something less well known. Of course quality is a factor too wink.gif

There's also an issue of track record. If Robin announced a new payware scenery, there,s a good chance I'd but it sight unseen. But some Joe Shmoe comes along and says "Here's my new Milford Sound: $40", I'd be a bit more wary (although after the wait for Peter Lohr's version, I'd take almost anything! laugh.gif)

My 50North doesn't have wing views, but you can change the config to get them: http://www.fiftynorth.com/FAQ.htm
I haven't used FS2002 in a number of years, so I wouldn't know of fs2002 compatibility sorry.

Do people prefer to pay top notch prices for top quality pay downloads

or

Download good stuff off avsim etc.

I don't have a sim budget so the only answer for me is Free downloads wink.gif

I'm quite wary now of payware since I bought Flight deck 3 as the aircraft just weren't detailed enough to justify the price. Now days I only will buy high quality aircraft addons with proper avionics and flight model.

Sounds like some of you need to read reviews? I only get payware if I've read excellent reviews. Usually its gotta be pretty darned good if I'm gonna fork out on it. I've bought FSPassengers, Ground Environment Pro II, and Active Sky 6. All of which were considered groundbreaking for their release (i.e. never been done before, or so good the rest aren't even worth mentioning). I've also bought the 20m mesh and topo just cus I'm biased to NZ, and again, it had awesome reviews.

I don't like flying the same plane over and over, so when it comes to payware planes I haven't yet bothered. Plenty of freeware models to mess around with for now. I've found a lot of freeware can be excellent its just more hassle - i.e. downloading other freeware so the one you want to actually use works cus of missing textures or panels or blah blah.

I'll pay through the nose for quality products from quality developers (PMDG, FlyTampa, Level D, FlightScenery, etc.) but wont pay one cent for a lot of the stuff out there.

The payware products available for AI traffic, for instance, are 100% bollocks, as far as I'm concerned. You're paying for a vastly inferior set of models as compared to the freeware models available (TFS, Aardvark, EvolveAI, DJC), make believe flightplans, and repaints that look like they were produced in 1st grade art class.

My advice, research before you buy. There may be superior freeware products available that will fit your needs.

*Feeling crabby tonight. Sorry. smile.gif

I think a lot of what you've said is quite true tho- take Jon Murchison's review of the FSX traffic. It's basically paying for the free VOZ AI (albeit worldwide), the models are poor and the textures don't fit (i.e. no better than VOZ).
Always ask someone if they have the model first. And be prepared to paint your own textures, because some people just cannot get it right. dry.gif
