Do people prefer to pay top notch prices for top quality pay downloads

or

Download good stuff off avsim etc.

I don't have a sim budget so the only answer for me is Free downloads :wink2:

Just depends on what im looking for in something, the only way to get a good chopper sometimes ,well in most case is to buy the model i want instead of waiting for someone to build a free one ,I prefer payware on the whole but there is some really good freeware out there that has brought me to where i am today in simming :thumbup:

I agree creator2003 (Mike) - I have some real nice freeware and some not so nice payware although most payware I have are excellent.

Some payware is rubbish, and there is some excellent freeware out there. The people who are really passionate about simming put loads of work into certain projects, expecting no financial gain, just satisfaction. Those sort of freeware top 70% of the payware I own.

I own a little payware, but don't fly much else. That said, there are some magnificent freeware projects out there that I should sink my teeth into.

Freeware or payware makes no difference when it comes to quality. There's very good freeware, and very poor payware, and of course everything in between. I wouldn't not download something because it's free: If it's rubbish I can just delete it; no harm, no foul. With payware, I'm much more selective, cos it's money, and it doesn't grow on trees. I tend to buy from companies that have a good reputation -- RealAir, Eaglesoft, FSAddon, FranceVFR, Flight1, Aerosoft... And I also operate on a "once bitten twice shy" principle, so people that no longer get my money include Abacus, FSD, FeelThere...

It goes without saying that I only bother with products than match my area of interest, ie, GA. There's no point in downloading the ultimate Heathrow, cos I'd never go there in my 172 etc. The only Boeing that'll get near my PC is a Stearman!

I do not mind paying a reasonable price for payware, as if the developers have spent time working on a project then it is fair that they should get paid. If someone like Christian spends weeks developing an add-on then to charge for the work is not unreasonable. Just downloaded an excellent Carenado C206 yesterday and did not object to paying for it. That said, it is great to have the freeware as well. The other payware that I bought recently was the RealNZ Marlborough Sounds. Who could object to paying for this, as clearly a LOT of work went into developing it.

One niggle about some payware is the excessive security/copyright controls built in. Some of these are so secure that I have had problems to install even after paying for the software, one problem that freeware does not usually have. One company had payware that would only work on the machine that downloaded it, which is hopeless if you download on one machine and run it on another machine.

Apart from FS9, the only payware I have, I bought from Geographx and it is fantastic
There is some great freeware around like Queenstown, Mt. Cook, the Fletcher topdresser, just to mention a few and I admire the people who make them available.
I'd rather spend a bit more on a better computer, Ram, Graphic card and the like, to get the most out of the goodies that are around

I generally fly freeware, unless there is nothing available and my hand is forced. A classic example was when Air NZ 737-300 flights were my main type of flying. The FFX 737-300 SUCKS... but I had no choice. 50 North came along, and released a B733. I bought it the day it was released. So they are the 'required' purchase by my mind. I loved the 733 flights, but hated the FFX.
Other aircraft I use excellent freeware when they are available. Dreamwings ERJ135 for example. Why get the feelthere when I'm quite happy in the freeware?

Others are just priceless for their quality, and I can't let them pass by. The Level D 767, and the Aeroworx B200 for example.
Others are just too pricey

PSS Triple 777 and PMDG 744

But, freeware is where I started, and we've had it pointed out in this forum numerous times, that there are freeware aircraft out there that are as good as, if not better, than payware (that French Cessna 152 for example). And where else can you find a good Fletcher, or Metroliner?

There is another sum to make or break ' payware' , The very different types u cannot get .. Your life 's wish to look at aircraft type add your own knowledge , paint . It depends on your view off type , its history and reason to buy . So many Airbus-Boeing -Beech Douglas - MD - DH products .. I have many , .. lotts that have nothing to do with New Zealand Aviation , the weird and wicked .

Albatross, does your version of the 50north 733 have a wingview?
Also do you know if it works in FS2002?
