Will try for that next time. Was hardly any inbound traffic, just alot of out bound stuff. Next time (when I'm not in agony) we'll have to go to NZCH and grab some shots

I've done that route in a 747, the aircraft was virtually empty. And it disembarks from the intl terminal too, which is always a novelty.

That is the worst thing ever, from Japan to Auckland via Christchurch, especially after flying 18 hours before getting to Japan for a 5 hour layover....

Do they still do this?

As it would seem a bit odd mixing Domestic and International Pax who havnt cleared customs... Id imagine it would be a bit of a security risk?

It does certainly seem like a bit of a pain esp if you've flown forever before Japan... <_<

Absoulty awesome shots Nik!

I see there is a fence very close to the action in shot #2, may I ask why you didn't run right up to it and poke youre lens through the mesh? :P

Same- flew Auckland to Osaka on a ANZ767, then swapped to a JAL 747 and continued to London. On the way back, flew JAL 747 from Heathrow to Osaka, then ANZ 767 to Christchurch, waited for a few hours in the terminal, then got onto an empty 747 for the trip up to Auckland which parked at the International terminal.

yes they do (see Jimmy's post for times)
what happens is that they stamp your boarding pass with "DOMESTIC PASSENGER ON INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT". You still have to go through customs (though from memory they just waved us through) and MAF screening, so no South Island apples in Auckland

Glad you like em. The fence you see is yet another fence beyond the one I was standing at. I am standing at the first fence, which is about 100m or more away from the second fence you see in the shots, I would have shot from there otherwise of course ;)
