The install itself will be easy enough, just double click the installer and it does all the work.

Anyway, am reading other forums on this and I found a thread on AVSIm that some may find interesting, probably of more use before you install SP1 rather than if you have already.

Looks to me like you only need it for add-on aircraft buit with VS 2005.
I see there's also a SP1A for SDK

Just out of interest I read this on http://www.fs-recorder.net/ in case you're using flight recorder with FSX.

The current version of FS Recorder for FSX (1.3 beta 1) is not compatible with the upcoming Service Pack 1 for FSX! If you install FSX SP1, you should uninstall FS Recorder for FSX 1.3 beta 1, otherwise FSX might crash to desktop!

I will release an updated version, as soon as I have it ready.

Regards,
Matthias

My Specs AMD64 3500 +, 2GB Ram, 256 6800 GT card.
Sliders set mostly to the right except for a few which are a notch down such as Terrain res set to 38m and textures to 2m. Traffic settings and others set lower
Did a circuit around default wellington and here are results:
end of runway - before 13 fps after 20 fps
climbout - before 16 fps after 25 fps
looking out side over city - before 11 fps after 21 fps
approach - before 13 fps after 21 fps
Net result - a big gain

Seeing your inprovment i will get it. I have slightly faster cpu(unless you tweaked) and a 7600gt, might mean i can get moe aI, but i'll bo with scenery. I might wait a week or so for my internet to reset, i think i have done too much downloading! Does anyone know when ihug internet resets?

VS2005 = Visual Studio 2005... its a software development suite (I used to use VS2003)... the redist package is basically a set of common C++ libraries... they're kinda similar to the old Visual Basic runtime libraries that you used to have to get to run VB applications...

The redist packages is only like 2.6meg, and its worth having as any software created with Visual C++ 2005 will probably use them... and its not going to hurt to have them installed.

As for the update, well its currently downloading at 500+KB/sec and only has 2 mins left to run  heh, in the time it took to type this out, it has actually finished  The FSinsider site must have some fantastic bandwidth!!!

will have to check it out tonight and see what sort of difference it makes on my system... Core2Duo E6400 + 4 Gigs RAM + 7600GT GPU... I'll probably benchmark it around RealNZ WN and/or AK City... and then try again with the service pack loaded...

Just did a before and after test, took off from NZAA, in the default Baron 58, flew at 3800ft across the CBD around past NZWP down the west coast and landed back at NZAA.
I have installed RealNZ Auckland, 20m mesh and most sliders set very high except for ground and boat ai and water.
Got about 6-9FPS increase which I'm really happy about.
