FS9 flight planner

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby Jimmy » Wed Dec 27, 2006 11:22 am

hi guys

I have a flightplan (I used the VPA planner to get it) for a flight from male (maldives) to heathrow. There are 97waypoints and its a 10hour flight.

I want to enter these into the fs planner so I leave my pc just flying for some of the flight. I am aware that there are erros in the fs9 database so it makes trying to enter this difficult, and scrolling around the map trying to find a certain fix is very very time consuming and sometimes not even possible(if it doesn't exsist).

my flight plan is as follows:

Usualy for a flight I just wait till I get to a waypoint then use the direct too gps function to fly to the next, as you can see I can't really sit at my pc for 10 hours entering waypoints as I go, although I would love to my Mum would not be so happy....

So how can I eathier get a acurate data base for fs so the fs planner will spit outt the same route as VPA did or just an easy way of entering it??

Thanks
James

Hey james, I think there are certain programs that can do this, theres a good un called FSnav I believe (ask craig).

Also bear in mind that the FSX data is much better than FS9, so bear this in mind also.

Hi James

1. Use FSNav - free to download, works for free for the first 30 goes, and you may be lucky and get it free. I don't navigate using anything else these days.

2. I am sure that you could reduce that route somewhat using airways rather than waypoints! Ask Alister - he's one of VPA's pirep checkers :D

Hey James, I can help you out in this regard, as yes, I'll probably end up checking your flight plan over at VPA.

Try FSNav as Matt mentioned. I wouldn't be without it now. What Matt meant above was that there is a bit of a lottery system going at fsnav. One in every "amount" of downloads will install for free. Otherwise, you get a trial version. FSNav will fly a route such as this for you, and will make it easy to create the route such as VPA's route planner has given you.

If you would like (depends when you are flying this flight I guess) I can enter all the waypoints and stuff into FSNav on my computer, and then export the flight plan as a valid FS9 GPS plan and send it to you. You would then just have to load it in your FS9 planner before beginning the flight. The route from the FS planner will be in your gps when you load the flight. Select GPS and it will fly it for you. At least the cruise section of the flight (less climb and descent instructions which FSNav would take care of for you) ;)

Sorry if I wasn't clear. FS Nav is available for 20 sessions (not 30) and every 30th download gets it free. :D

Important:

Please use the free testing phase of 20 Flight Simulator sessions to try out FSNavigator and form your own opinion. Perhaps you are lucky! On every 30th computer FSNavigator will register itself, and so for you be free. If you won a free registration, you will be informed about this the first time you start FSNavigator

It works on when you install it, so I guess if you were the only one in the world installing/uninstalling/changing IP/wiping registry 30 times in a row, that could work :P

There are other people downloading it as well, its not just the one person.
Odds are pretty good though, 1 in 30, much better than Lotto or Big Wednesday.

I did! :D

I downloaded the trial for my old computer and it worked brilliantly. Once I got a new PC and got FS up and running, I started downloading all my addons again, and surprise surprise, when I installed it, it registered itself for free :P

Here's another flight planner which some of you may find useful. Particularly for Rotorheads and Bushstrip fans when flying in the back of beyond.

It's mainly intended for when you want to go somewhere that does not have a predifined waypoint in FS9. You can define the point and then import the file into your GPS/Map. Great for those extra airstrips that you see from the RBE package.

Though I see no reason why it couldn't be used for cases like Jimmys. Any how it's available from here at Hovercontrol.
Testers are born to fiddle. What does this button do? Oh! Never mind.....
