Im just testing a new machine at work so i though id fire up a ArcGlobe (a 3D GIS/visualisation program) and test out some high defintion data

The 2m 'Mesh' (known as a DEM or Grid in GIS) was generated from LiDaR flown for the whole of the Rotorua District a short time ago.
The Aerial photos are just our Region wide 'RDAM03' photos....0.8m pixel resolution so nothing really to write home about there.

Ive put the aerial photos into FSX.....havent got around to getting the mesh in there yet

Perhaps a vision of the future of Flight simming ;)

Well we should be recieving the latest aerial photos for the Rotorua District any day now....in the urban areas these have a spatial resolution of 12.5cm per pixel and are accurate to 30cm (ie. an objects coordinates taken from GIS should be within 30cm of that object in the real world measured with a suitable GPS)
The rest of the district is being captured at 25cm pixel resolution and accurate to 1m

It will be choice to see that in Arcglobe although its usefulness is kinda limited because higher resolution just means you can zoom in more....but at very high zoom levels things like 3d buildings and vegetation is needed to give a good visualisation :)
