Well I just had to go to the Beach yet again

The latest Patch from MS at FSinsider.com solved me a great scenery headache
Heres some Screencaps

I am still in talks with my Boss about releasing scenery just so you are aware
The total photo area is some 3474 sq km so it would be no small download several of the set are 270-290 mb

Roll on summer

You should be able to get those file sizes down surely? One option might be to use a water mask to remove the areas of the image that are water. From an image compression point of view, there isnt much difference between water pixels and land pixels but the difference is that water pixels/areas are pretty much uniform and can be represented in Flight sim by the water effects...If you use .tga images you can make a nice progression from the land (photo tiles) to the shallow water (50% Photo, 50% water effect) to the water (100% water effect)

Oh, btw what does the patch do/What is it?

Looks utterly amazing Greg- I just wish that sort of quality was available in fs2004!

 You really know it's summer when you can hear the sikaders (sp?) are chirping away all day!

Me again

I have little experience with the FS2004 inf method and got all twisted up with numbers and positioning not having maths as a gift so I gave up on that way and just left it so you can see that the new method which use geotiffs are great for me and according to the sdk you can use them for waqtermasks and alpha blends as well. So that is where I'll be trying
On the other hand if when you export a geotiff you choose with tfw file can I use the info in those headers for the FS2004 method
Also when you mention masks and alphas what defines them color wise , Black White Greyscale ? what colors do what?
If you can help my confused mind on this

Ta
